Q: Developing An Allergy to Certain Foods?

I get tired, irritable, and my heart seems to beat faster when I eat foods such as pizza, spaghetti, spaghettios, beefaroni, or anything of the sort. I think it may have to do with the sauce. It's nothing severe, but enough to be noticeable. Do you think this is a sign I could be developing an alergy?

There could be lots of reasons for your symptoms. But if you think you have associated them with eating certain foods you could test that theory by eliminating all of those foods from your diet. Go for a couple of weeks without eating any of them (I know it will be hard.). After you start feeling back to your normal self, then you can add them back in one food at a time. Wait about a week or more between each food that you add. This should give you a better idea if it is actually the food and specifically which foods it is.

Lots of people have food allergies and do not recognize it. It is great that you are so in-tune with your own body to notice the changes.

I was tested for food allergies at one point and also did the omitting and re-adding foods test on myself. I have changed my diet drastically and it has all been worth it. I know this may sound strange, but life seems different now. Better. And I feel better.

Best of luck with this if you decide to try it.

I have attached a link to a site on food allergies. Most of the information that I was able to find states that food allergies are life threatening. In my case, and maybe in yours also, the allergies were not to the point of being life threatening, but I was allergic to so many different foods that it caused uncomfortable side effects that affected my daily life. Just like you described, I was irritable a lot, was very tired most of the time, and my heart would race at times. I also suffered chronic headaches associated with food allergies.

I hope you can find some help in all of this information. I hope I didn't rattle on too much. Take care of yourself. You know your body better than anyone. Be your own advocate. - T

You are very welcome. So glad I could help. And I know what you mean about not really wanting the foods anymore. I'm not sure if it is the association with the bad feeling that it gives you, but I know that I just don't have the taste anymore for those things that I am allergic to.

Take care. And good luck. - T
