Q: Blood Clot In Leg

My daughter was just run over by her horse. The horse stepped on the back of her leg, and her leg is black from her buttocks to her knee. The entire area is extremely swelled. She went to the doctor, who did not xray her, but told her that she has a very deep muscle injury. The doctor told her to come back in 2 weeks, but to be careful of blood clots. How would she know if she had a blood clot, since her whole leg is black? She also told her, that her entire leg will turn black and blue eventually, during the healinlg process, as the blood pools. Anyone have any opinions? I would appreciate your input.

Hi Susaqn

To be honest, I would get her straight to A&E ! To be told to be careful of 'blood clots' from a doctor, and just let it go like that is really not very professional of them, especially as they assumed it's a deep muscle injury, without running the proper examination or x-ray to confirm this diagnosis... get her to a hospital, for a second opinion, and insist on a x-ray, to ensure this isn't anything serious. It may be adeep muscle injury, but as you are posting, then you are showing real concern about this.

You and your daughter take care.

Ginger
