Hey everyone, I'm another "victim" of chronic cold sores. Although I'm aware of all the treatments and supplements (sunblock/stay out of the sun, lysine, keep away from peanut butter, chocolate, caffeine, onions, and nuts because of arginine, increase lysine with supplements, milk, dairy, etc., exercise, ibuprofen, ice, vitamin e and oil during an outbreak, decrease in b vitamins -- the 'stress' vitamins - can cause them), I feel like I'm missing something. I am covering all the bases and I'm STILL getting them. I live a VERY health life, I eat my vegetables, fruits, oils, waters, milks, I do still have some bad stuff but it's balanced.

What else could be causing this? Could it be something ELSE causing them, a disease, a disorder? Who do I go to that would specialize in this area? I've been with my boyfriend for two years now and he's very supportive, I'm lucky to only have the oral herpes simplex (due to complete knowledge and awareness of mouth-to-mouth, bodily fluid, shedding, etc) but I feel like I'm missing something. I changed my lifestyle around and it seems unfair to still be getting them. I also own prescription Zovirax ointment, but I've heard Valtrex is NOT a daily pill, ONLY a "when you feel an outbreak" pill. Embarassed Rolling Eyes

WHAT am I missing?

Sorry to hear that your having troubles.

There is no cure for Herpes so thats why you keep getting them. It wont go away. This is for Viris #2 so I am not sure if its the same as #1, I imagine it would be.

How is your immune system? Herpes attacks constantly, you brain is sending signals out all of the time. The virus is constantly being sent out to the surfice of your skin. So when your immune system is down you get an outbreak. Most of the time your body can fight it off. But due to stress or sickness like the flu or colds, you get an outbreak. You are eating well and taking all of the vitamins so I really cant think of anything else, except your immune system.

Have you seen a doctor yet?

I haven't seen a doctor for my immune system, but I did have warts on my fingers as a child, and I had to be vaccinated for chicken pox because I didn't have the antibodies for them (outbreak in 3rd grade wasn't severe.. maybe 2 or 3 pox). Herpes, Warts, and Pox are all around the same strand.. perhaps there is a link somewhere? I don't understand why I'm getting them so often. I get plenty of rest as well. Anywhere from 8-12 hours a day! I can't really find the missing link. I know it is not curable, but I think that there should be a way to severely reduce the outbreaks. From October 2005 - April 2006 I had about 8 outbreaks, all in clusters or in more than one spot on the lips. From childhood up until 2005 I was only getting them about once or twice a year, but now over the last couple years its becoming a CONSTANT worry.
