Question Question when i called for my results, i was told some of the many tests had to go to the UofM lab. most of the tests involved looking for proteins
(bense jones) calcium levels and a 24 hr urine test. these were all completed aug. 7,2007. then some had to go to the university. i am sitting on very painful pins and needles. is it par for the course for the dr. to wait till all tests are in before discussing any parts of the tests? also does this seem like an inordinant length of time? to get results? thank you. the test were done at a large meto hospital.

It's normal for doctors to wait for all results before they establish a diagnose about certain condition. Testing for Bence Jones proteins in your urine is usually done to detect that protein and to measure its amount. Routine and quick tests can be done to find B J protein and more complicated method thats called electrophoresis gives results about its amount. This method is important because the amount indicates about the growth of the tumor and it's done within several days.
Testing calcium levels is a routine laboratory work, but the doctor can get better picture of your health by comparing calcium results with the other test results(BJ pr. test) Be aware that B J protein find in the urine is also connected with other conditions.

All best to you!
