Sleep Paralysis, Night Terrors, Or Something Else? Posted: 08-19-07 00:10am
Ever since I was young I've been plagued
by indescribably horrible nightmares-
riddled with blood, death, destruction,
and terrible creatures and things that I
can't even begin to explain. I've also
had chronic insomnia for as long as I can
remember, and have also been told that I
twitch and sometimes shake uncontrollably
on the rare occasions where I do get to
sleep. But that doesn't worry me so much,
as the fact that recently when I have an
especially frightening nightmare I wake
up, but it's like my mind is still stuck
in the dream. I am conscious and aware
that I am lying in bed, but I can't open
my eyes or move my body and the dream
continues on. It's like I'm paralyzed
from head to toe, and it feels as if
something is sitting on top of me.
But just yesterday I was lying in bed,
trying to get to sleep, when that feeling
of something on top of me started again.
It was odd, because I had not even fallen
asleep yet. And all the sudden I got this
feeling like there was smoke all around
me, and I felt as if I could see the smoke
out of the corner of my eye, but my eyes
were closed. I ignored it for a little
while, then something compelled me to open
my eyes and when I did right in front of
me on the other side of my room was a
glowing pinprick of bright red light. I
stared at it for a couple seconds, closed
my eyes, then it was gone. After that
this extreme feeling of foreboding hit me,
my mind began playing tricks with me and
it felt as if all the shadows in the room
were reaching up from the floor to touch
me. I got out of my room and turned on as
many lights as possible, then decided to
stay up for the rest of the night, but
ended up going to sleep around 10am
because of sheer exhaustion.
I don't know what's going on, and frankly
I am a little scared of falling asleep
tonight. Anyone have any advice?

It either can be a ghost when you saw that
red light. Ive actually seen like
sometypes of shawdows when i open my eyes
after i fall asleep. And then when i go to
go fall asleep i put alot more light on.
Me = wimp lol.

Dont sleep on your back, and most
impotently, dont think about it too much
before sleep. Sleep paralysis only happens
to me when I think about it in bed.
I know it can be very frightning. If it
does happen again, focus on trying to move
your toes and fingers, and gradually gain
control of your body! When you do, the
"dream" stops.

happen only when lying on my back too
