Q: Protein In Urine - 3 Yr Old - Treatment Options...

Hi,

My son is 3 yr old and during a normal examination of urine, protein was found. Its been 3 weeks and protein is consistently present during repetitive examinations.

We are seeing a Kidney Nephrologist and he has asked for few more tests and if his diagnosis is confirmed, he will start medication - steroids and all.

I am kind of worried because of side-effects; however I know that if there are no options, we will have to go for such medications only.

Specifically I have two questions to this forum, if anyone can direct me - that would be of great help.

1) Are there medical facilities available (here in US) which can review all the available reports and suggests that the medication that is going to start is fine? Kind of Second Opinion?

2) Are there any alternative (proven) therapy for this - using which we can avoid giving steroids to such a small kid?

Thanks a lot; looking for a speedy reply from the forum.

Thanks
