Your mum is probably suffering from acute
leukemia, malignant process that affects
bone marrow and replace its normal cells
(from which red and white blood cells and
platelets develop) with higher numbers of
immature white blood cells. Due to this,
there is a luck of platelets in her blood
steam, condition known as
thrombocitopenia. With this condition she
is pron to bleedings which can be fatal if
they occur in brain (her situation is more
difficult because she is diabetic and
diabetic people already have problems with
coagulation).
Transfusions with red blood cells and
platelets is an initial treatment of
supportive and symptomatic character.
Hope I helped!
