Hey! I am 27w 4d preggo and I am thinking about what I wanna do.. With my DS I bottle feed him.. Well I know it is so much cheaper to breastfeed but I really don't want to do that (I guess its just my own personal feeling on it) I am a stay at home mom and hubby makes too much for WIC.. So I was thinking about consistant pumping insted of the breast.. Have any of you ladies done it or heard about anybody really doing that? I usually hear breast or bottle.. If you could give my your opinion on what you think... Thanks so much Ladies...Cortney

i had a tough time so i pumped and gave it to her in a bottle. because i gave her the bottle too soon she wouldnt latch on at all and i would pump every two hours and was fine for about two weeks but i didnt pump at night because i was too tired and then i became so engourged in the morning, my shirt would be soaked and then i was able to pump less and less ..
my biggest advice is if your going to pump make sure to do it regularly. because i didnt pump at night i wasnt able to produce enough during the day to feed her all she needed (because she began to eat less and i produced less)
i just got really frustrated with the whole process of not being able to pump her even a whole bottle full enough for a whole feeding.. plus washing out the bottles and the pump and charging it and storing the milk and waking up in pain all while caring for a newborn was too much for me.. if i could go back id try just to breastfeed.. it would of been much easier had i of given it more time ( i wasnt patient enough to wait for my milk to come in before i gave her a bottle)
if you can keep up with it im all for it.. i just think you do whats best for you and your baby.. i used to dread feeding her because i couldnt get her to latch on and i used to dread the pump because when she was eating i just wanted to sleep and i wasnt able to because i had to pump for a half hour..
like i said i think just do whats best for you.. try to pump maybe youll have a much better experiance.. this was just what i went through

sorry for so many errors.. im sleep deprived and too lazy to go back and fix them Smile

You have to get a good pump (hospital quality). I bought a Medela thinking it was nice, NOT.

Pumping sucks (literally) and it's so much easier to just not do it than to spend 30 minutes hooked up to a machine. I really wanted to pump when I went back to work in June, and that just didn't work out. Maybe it will for you though.

You do have to be very consistent about doing it and yes, that means at night too, so you can keep up a good supply.

Good luck.

I personally would at least try to breastfeed for a few weeks to a month. The first two weeks, your baby can get the vital colostrum that is high in antibodies, protein and carbs. If you really don't want to pump for too long and use formula instead, you can always rent a breast pump from the hospital for one month. Please consider at least a few weeks for the baby to get the colostrum.

I pump occasionally and I really don't mind it., except I hate cleaning those all the time. For the first few weeks, I only breastfed because I didn't want my baby to get confused (don't know if he would have or not). He goes between the bottle and breast pretty well.

It is all about what works for you. Everyone and every situation is so different. I would at least try the breastfeeding for your baby (even if it's pumping instead of breastfeeding). The first few months can get a bit frustrating.

Good luck,

Karin

i would say atleast try it.. i tried breastfeeding, but i didnt like the feeling at all, plus it was really inconvient for me so i switched to formula... and i cannot bad mouth it.. my baby is healthy he's a big boy, and hes only had a mild cold once... i only breastfed for 2 and a half days too (so not long at all) if i could go back i wouldnt have changed a thing.. i tried it and im proud i gave it a chance..
anyways let us know what you decide is right for you..
if you do decide to formula feed, you will most likly be talked to by the hospital nurses (they are very persistant on getting you to breast feed)

It's up to you about whether you want to breastfeed or bottle feed with breast milk or formula. I've done both. My daughter is now on formula and she's doing great with that. If you decide to breastfeed using a pump, I suggest using a hospital quality one. I've tried others and they did not work for me until my mom's friend gave me a nice hospital one.

Hey Ladies! I was leaning towards just pumping and just bottle feed with breast milk.. But I think I am just going to formula feed again.. I did with my son and he turned out great ( Very Healthy & Smart ).. And I don't regret not brest feeding him.. But I will still consider breast feeding but I am pretty set on formula.. But I want to thank you ladies so much.. Every input helps Smile Thanks Cortney
