Q: My Body Is Wacky!!

Some of you know that I got diagnosed with an overactive thyroid right before I found out I was pregnant. Well, I went to see my specialist back in July and he put me on an antithyroid medicine. From the day after I started taking it, I felt horribly sick. I ran a fever and starting vomiting instantly after taking it the next week. After about a week and a half I gave up taking it and was hoping for good news when my next set of bloodwork was coming up. Well, I went in for my appointment today and I am no longer overactive. I now have an uderactive thyroid. My doctor just laughed at me. When I was there the last time he went on about how I had all the symptoms of underactive but my bloodwork said otherwise.

I think my body was reacting badly to the meds because I somehow knew I didn't need it. For now, we are waiting a month and redoing the bloodwork but I no longer have to take those horrible meds. I may have to take something new next month but it will be much safer for the baby than the last medicine.

When we first found out I had a thyroid problem they kept telling me I had hyperthyroidism. They said my numbers were off the charts and they couldn't believe it was that far off. I had to go in for testing every one- two weeks for about 4 months (my poor arms never got a break!) and then after a couple weeks of 'hyper' results they started fluctuating between 'hyper' and 'hypo'. It took forever to figure out that I had hypothyroidism. So I completely know what you mean.. And since I had my baby my levels are constantly changing again. Its definately no fun with a thyroid problem!

My doctor suspected that I had hyperthyroidism but my levels fluctuate between high and normal so nothing has been done.

I have suspected hypothyroidism in myself for some time but my levels always came out normal until May when it said the opposite. I guess I'll see what my blood says next month.
