Slapping Toddler
Posted: 08-15-07 12:12pm

Hello it has been a while for me to post, busy with the summer.

I have come to a problem with my 15 month old daughter Jaylee. She has started to slap me and herself. She slap's herself so hard she will cry. I am needing some advise on how to get her to stop. The latest thing we have tried is telling her "nice". So what that is she will pet you like you would a cat or dog. It has helped but not stopped the slapping.

Any Advise?????????????????

the only bit that really worries me about all that is that she slaps herself too. perhaps taking her to see a shrink or doctor may be best... =\

i'm sure there are probably childrens educational books or something, goodluck.

I don't think your child requires a psychologist for something that's actually pretty normal. Especially since my take on the matter is at least they're not taking out their aggressions and frustrations on someone else. Check to see what triggers your child's hitting herself. I'd bet it's frustration. Chu actually just started doing this. It's always a simple case of frustration. Like a box he can't open or being told no. He'll actually slap his own face or try to bang his head against the ground. He's angry because he can't do something or he can't express to me what he wants. I've found distraction works remarkably well at this stage, and I'm teaching him to say "help" so that if I'm in another room while he plays he can call me to help him. "Help" seems to be working the best right now and the rest of the time I just distract him! Thank God they're so easy to distract right now! Try that, it's working for me. Laughing
