Q: Throat Tension Driving Me Crazy

I have constant throat tension. It's a bit uncomfortable to speak and sometimes I pronounce things funny because of the tightness. Sometimes I can't go to sleep at night easily because of this. I had this for as far back as I can remember. Stress makes it worse. Lump in throat feeling too. Any ideas? Thanks.

I guess I should see a ent doctor. Confused

I am not in your exact shoes, but I have something sort of similar. I get a strange feeling of something in my throat. I feel like if I keep clearing my throat, it will go away. It lasts a few days and then it goes??! I am not sure what it is. I have had x-rays and nothing is in there.
Good luck!

Lump In Throat
Hi
just wondering how you were doing with the tightness in the throat....I have had the same thing for almost a year now...Had an endoscopy and blood work, saw and ent. But they say all looks ok....It is a scarey feeling..Like it's going to close off.....Someone said spasms of the esophagus due to anxiety???? I don't know but it is really annoying and scarey at the same time...
How are you doing?

Tightness In Throat
My friend just had this procedure done a few months ago and I am thinking about having it done as well. They put you under , slid a tube down your throat, expand it for a second and then remove it. This is not a one time deal it will have to be done again in a few years and he can no longer eat spicy foods, have caffeine, or alcohol. My friend also had problems eating and could no sallow without it getting stuck in his throat and could not eat without having something to drink. I believe this was done at a small hospital in warsaw, n.Y. Located between buffalo and rochester.

Hi mikey

it sounds like it may be anxiety related. Hop on over to the anixety and stress forum - there are a lot of us that experience the same thing you are describing...

sounds familiar
iv'e suffered from neck, throat and shoulder tesion for as long as i can remember, after years of doctors putting me on different medications and sending me to see shrinks making out i was going crazy they finally realised i suffer with bad acid reflux which i now take medication for. however i still suffer and it can be rather scary with a feeling that my throat is closing up and i cant breath or swallow which can cause severe anxiety and panic attacks.
What helps: use a hot water bottle as a pillow when you go to bed , works a treat, relaxes all muscles quickly.
drink a milky drink before bed.
suck boiled sweets.
if you find yourself really tense and in a panic sit directly in front of a blow heater, the heat acts as a relaxent.
have a hot bath laying your head right back so the water surrounds your neck.
have someone massage your neck and shoulders.
finally dont forget as much as it feels you can't breathe you actually can. breathe in a paper bag, seeing yourself breathing also helps.
Wink

I have the same tension. It has bugged me for years. I am a musical theatre performer and it has always been an awful nuisance. I wake up with it now. Constant choking and gagging. If it is anxiety driven do you think Meditation could help it? I am willing to try anything.
