Q: Gardasil; Yay Or Nay?

Hello everyone; this is my first (oops, second!) post on these forums, and I wish it could have been under better circumstances.

At the moment, I'm scared out of my wits; I went into my doctor's office two days ago to receive my meningitis vaccination (I'm starting college in less than a week), and my doctor mentioned Gardasil, which is a new vaccine for preventing certain strands of HPV (Human Papillomavirus).

I thought it would be a good idea to get the first injection out of the way, so I got them both that day.

Now I wish I had done my research first.

I've found both good and bad things about this new vaccine, and I've been worrying myself sick over the debate since I, out of curiosity, starting looking it up last night. I'm an eighteen-year-old, female, and in good health. I have no particular reason for worrying this much about it, but not only do I already have a vaccine phobia, but medicines in general make me squirmy.

Hey, I don't even take Tylenol if I can help it.

But I would like to hear the views of other people on this forum. Thanks for your time.

(And I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I browsed for awhile looking for the right place.)

Personally, I won't do it for my children just because it has not been researched and I think the drug company has been overzealous in marketing this new vaccine as a wonder drug to prevent cancer. In truth, It does NOT protect against most of the strains of HPV which people more commonly get. It DOEES prtect against SOME of the strains which are linked to cancer, but I think the way they have marketed the vaccine has been purposely misleading.

However, you already had the vaccine, so there is not much that you can do about it now. Out of curiosity, what are your concerns?

Their are two more shots she needs to get to complete the vaccine. I would personally get if if it would help me (won't now). I do not think you have to much to worry about but if you notice anything then contact your doctor immediately.

Because I am now single and don't intend to be a nun, I am going to get this vaccine. I like vaccines. I understand not abusing medicine and I certainly don't, but I think most vaccines are different from taking a pill for everything from sexual dysfunction to depression.

Yeah, nothing I can really do now... though I am taking this as a lesson well learned.

I'm concerned mainly about long term side-effects. When I went into the office a couple of days ago, I assumed that they had done this sort of research... but I now feel that there hasn't been enough work done to ensure that this wont affect people's health negatively in the future.

I agree that the company has been somewhat fishy about their advertising of the vaccine. I've found lists of side-effects online that were not mentioned in any pamphlet or on the Merck website, and that worries me. There have been cases of 16-year-olds losing consciousness after getting vaccinated.

I think I'm more paranoid than anything, but the possibilities worry me.

Yeah, I'm considering not getting the next two... I'll have to see how I feel about it.

I plan to, though thank you for the advice <3.

True... thank you for your feedback!

I think part of my whole paranoia on this is because of my vaccine fear...

He's great ^^ By the way, I meant "because I am NOW", instead of "NOT".

As long as you don't feel any negative side effects you might as well go through with it. Cervical Cancer can be a very bad thing, especially if not caught early.

I would get this vaccine, but I can't now. It is too late. I've already had cervical cancer. Knowing I wouldn't wish this on anyone, especially my daughter!, I will be getting her the vaccine as well.

It is way better than death. Fear of death. Fear of losing your fertility, etc.

I was watching Death Note for awhile, but never finished it... I'm still disappointed with myself for that!

Ah, and noted :3.

I'm still thinking about it, but I have also heard about Cervical Cancer itself... though, since I've already gotten the first, I suppose you're right.

I was like that too! I watched closely for every new episode, but then I just got busy... now I regret it. But I am looking forward to seeing how they handle the dub.

(Hee, I guess this a little off-topic...)

Gardasil
I have been researching vaccines for about 20 years. During that time I have yet to encounter a vaccine that is safe or effective. No one has yet been able to explain how injecting known toxins like formaldehyde and/or thermerasol into a person can prevent any disease. They also have aborted human fetal tissue cells in some of these vaccines. In the case of gardasil, at lest 5 women have dropped dead right after getting the vaccine. Long term harm from the vaccine is not known at this time. What is known is that A total of 1,930 reported Gardasil adverse events involved administration of Gardasil alone, and 135 adverse events involved co-administration of Gardasil with Menactra. I would never recommend a vaccine for anything.

I have to argue with this... you can't just say vaccines aren't effective.

Smallpox? Rubella? Polio? Debilitating (life threatening) diseases that have all been almost completely or completely eradicated with vaccines.....

I have to admit I am skeptical about Gardisil mostly because it's so damn expensive but you can't just say all vaccines are bad.

If if isn't too much trouble, could you give me your source for this information?

If Gardasil was just this toxic it wouldn't be in the market..

I take all the vaccines that I can find. Glad my company give the hepatitis one and I'm glad I did the blood testing to make sure I assimilated the chicken pox one, I got two shots of that one. I'm terrified of chickenpox and it can be deadly if you get it as an adult... If I ever have a girl I will for sure tell her to get that gardasil vaccine..

You have fun with that smallpox, KingCop! I mean, assuming you'd prefer to live in a world where Edward Jenner just said 'Ah, screw it' and gave up and smallpox is still a huge epidemic problem. Or maybe Punch was right and the smallpox vaccine really did turn people into cows. Very Happy

Also cite your sources. I want links, and not to wikipedia or idiotsagainstwomennotgettingcervicalcancer .com or anything like that.

But seriously? $150 per shot? And you need three, so $400 total?

I guess I can't afford to prevent cervical cancer. Confused

And of course, there are no generics available, just the Gardasil brand.....

I hate drug companies.
