Genetic Testing And Insurability ? Posted: 08-12-07 20:50pm
My paternal side of the family has a four
generation history of colon cancer (my
grandmother, father, 3 aunts, 2 cousins
and 1 second cousin). My second cousin
was diagnosed earlier this year at age 33.
His genetic testing showed a gene change
in a gene called MSH2 which causes a
condition called Hereditary Non-Polyposis
Colorectal Cancer.
I would like to be tested to find out if I
received this gene from my father but am
afraid of insurability if I show this gene
change. I’m looking for advice. Thanks

It's reasonable to do the testing and my
suggestion is to do it on your own, not
connected with your insurance.
Don't worry to much, maybe you hadn't
inherited the gene. Although the MSH2 gene
leads to developing colon cancer in 85%,
having it doesn't mean that you'll have
colon cancer.The life style and
environment are also important for some
gene to be expressed during the life time.
