There is no fear of becoming infertile on depo. But if you want to switch I'll help you with that. Depo does not make women infertile. It can take a year or so after stopping it to become pregnant, but it certainly doesn't make you infertile.

Depo can cause infertility it happened to my sister. Why do you think I'm so worried about it i got off depo in nov 06 because of what happened to her and i still haven't gotten my period i was on depo for 3 years just like her. I would so switch asap but definitely consult your doctor ont he best way to do it dont just do it all by yourself. But bottom line it can cause you to be infertile get off depo.

Well you shouldnt be telling women that they CANT become infertile when it happen right in my family.
I think your being alil harsh and depo wasnt approved by the FDA right away. My gyno wont even give Depo to new customers becuase of horrible it is.

No medicine is approved "right away" by the FDA, they all have to go through years of rigorous testing before they are approved.

Ok they arent approved and they are putting it on he market that maks sense and i have heard through the grape vine that Depo or the hormone in it used to be used on men in jail and on animals. I dont know about you but that doesnt sound like something i want to stick in my body. I was ON Ortho Tricyclen Lo, and I loved it. It was amazing; I've got absolutely NO complaints about it. I personally had a hard time remembering pills, so that's why I've decided to switch to a more long-lasting form of birth control, thus Depo. I would have gotten Implanon but it's not widely available in the USA yet. The USA is so far behind when it comes to birth control; implanon is very common around the globe.

And like i said before I was reading all day about things trying to inform myself and everyone says certain times that u have to take the pill initially. In my situation after i had my daughter i went immediatly on meridan iud and when it gotpulled out i went on depo so i have never had a period so how do i know when to start?

also i spoke with the gyno and they mentioned a 7 day cycle i forget the name of the drug that will make my period come 7-10 days after i take the last pill. should i start that then go on ortho the day my period starts or should i jsut try to use the ortho to start my period im jsut trying not to put to much''crap'' inmy body ya know.

oh the doctor called it amenarea i dont know how to spell it but that is hwat she told me and all my levls are out of wack. i told her i have been off depo for a year and she said that it wasnt normal considering my circumstances i guess.

Amenorrhea is the correct spelling. Your hormone levels may indeed be out of "whack", but one year off depo may not be enough for you since you were on the shot for three years. It is time to star taking action though. Not to worry, but to simply take steps to normalize your body again.

Ortho however is less likely to cause weight gain. Since depo is a progesterone treatment, it (with the mini pill and mirena and anything else with only progesterone) is slightly more likely to cause weight gain than combined hormone pills.

But ortho won't make you lose weight, that's for sure.

Actually the reason that depo had a problem getting approved was because women's rights activists wanted it off the market. It seemed that less fortunate populations in third world countries and even mentally handicapped people in the US were getting injected without knowing and without being informed of the risks as a form of sterilization, which is obviously a violation of rights and discrimination. It didn't have to do with it being a questionable drug or anything.

And it's used to treat criminals simply because it reduces sexual desire in men- which makes perfect sense that if you give a man progesterone his sexual desire will decrease. It's not used because it's dangerous, that would go against the constitution. And they don't really do that any more because it doesn't really prevent them from doing the crime again.

And it is known to cause infertility- temporary infertility for a short time after getting off it. It is not clinically shown to actually reduce fertility indefinitely, or it wouldn't be allowed to be sold. I've never had a doc (and I've seen lots) who has said anything bad about depo.

Okay i believe i was on it for two years and after the third or second shot i bleed for a couple of months before it stop. I lose so much blood i was anemic. I have gained alot of weighted i believe i was 150 to 160 and now i am 190. I got off it to see if i could lose weight because i knew that it made u gain alot of weight. I have gained so much weight i look pregnant even though i am not. I am off it now and took one pack of the pills. Is it true about not being able to get pregnant and being fertily. I am 19 and some day would love to have a kid. so please let me know. I also had a little bleeding here and there after being on it. i would bleed for a day or so. And i had that more than once.If anyone was wondering i ask the doctors if that was normal and they said yes and i know that isnt true and that something is wrong or was wrong.Please if u have anything to say to me or some kind of help please write back.
