Hi your supposed to start levlen on the first day you get your period so the day you get you period The white pills are "dummy" pills to allow a period and once you've finished your period take the pills on whichever day it is so you don't get confused. it doesn't really make a difference as they are dummy pills anyway but thats what I was told to do. Its take about 8 days after your period to start working properly.

You should start the first ACTIVE pills, whatever color they may be, on the first day of your period. If you started with the placebo pills, you would basically be taking nothing, you would not be protected from pregnancy, and that would be bad.

You should start with the active pills on the first day of your period. If you do this, you will be immediately protected from pregnancy. If you do not start the pills this way, then you will not be immediately protected and will have to wait one week.

I know of NO doctor that would tell you to start with the placebo week. That is a very wrong way to take the pills. The placebo week goes last, NOT first.

Ok so i understand now but am still intrigued as to why some information on Levlen ED suggests that it is also fine 2 start taking them on the sunday after your period starts. how does this work and would it require a longer period of time on alternative contraception??

You just start on the first sunday after your period starts, it's that simple. I think you have to use back-up for one week; I personally would, just to be safe.

No, it's not the same.

Starting on the first day of your period is called "Day 1 Start". D1 could happen any day of the week, like wednesday, or friday, or tuesday. You do not need to use back up because you are safe immediately.

Starting on the first Sunday after your period is called "Sunday Start". With sunday starting, you should really use back up for a week. Say you started your period monday. Well, you'd have to wait all week until next sunday to begin your pills and your period may very well be over by then. Sunday start is used because that makes it an easy day of the week to remember.

~You can start on a Sunday. There's nothing special about sunday, it just is easy to remember and lowers your chance of getting your period on a weekend. If you do this, you have to wait a week before you can have unprotected sex. And yes, you must start at the beginning of the pack, not the dummy pills. That would do nothing.

~You can start on the first day of your period. In that case, you would take the first real active pill and you could have unprotected (no condom) sex right away.

~Or you could start any darn day you choose- just take the first active pill in the pack and wait a week before you have unprotected sex.

If your pill pack is labeled with the days of the week, then often times it comes with day of the week stickers so you can put them over the printed ones (and therefore always know what day you are on so you don't get messed up) or you could just write over it.

this morning i just started my first white pill... me and my boyfriend are curious as to whether it is still safe to have unprotected sex tonight...

so basically the days that you're on the white pills are you still covered by the contraception?

As long as you've been taking your pills correctly.

Its also very important to start your new pack on time.

i took my first on a wednesday it was 2 days into my period and i took the 'white' pill where it tells me to start... i have now been takin the tablets for about 2 weeks, did i do anything wrong

Moanz, didn't your doctor explain how to take them and what all the arrows meant?

From what I read, you take the pill on the day that's marked in whatever color your pack has (I saw two different packs, but they both had a sectioned off area). Then you just follow the arrows.

So you started on a Wednesday (you need a back up method for a week since you started second day of your cycle) and you would take the Wednesday pill in the sectioned off area and then continue and follow the weirdy arrows.

That's just what I get from the directions, you should double check with your doctor if you are unsure.

i was wondering if after every peirod do you have to do the 7 day rule? or as soon as your peirod has finshed and you take the small pill are you safe?
