Hi everyone, I have known about my diabeties for 6 years now. I am type one. I found out with my second pregnancy. Well I was admitted on friday with diabetic ketoacidosis. It had to be the scariest thing I ever been through. I am currently taking the insulin pump, but for some reason I had hooked my pump up on wednesday and it cut off so I was not getting insulin. I am awful at checking my sugars, I can honestly say I have not checked them at all for soem time now. Very scary, I learned a huge leason by getting admitted into the critical care unit.

Has anyone else went through this and can give me some advice on what to look for into the future. I just been really slacking in my health since the birth of my second son. Things are going to change from here on out, my kids need a mom!

I could use some support and advice, I am open to anything!

Hi
Just by realizing your young children will need a mother should put you on the right track. You see by ignoring your health, you already have one scare, you certainly don,t want all the other complications that come with neglecting diabetes, that is what keeps me on the straight and narrow. You are the only one who can take charge of your life and health. If you were my daughter I would plead with you to make diabetes testing, a good diet and some excercise a part of your life, get into the routine of just doing what you have to do, after awhile it becomes second nature, that is what we have to do to stay alive and healthy. Look into your sweet childrens eyes and think of all the wonderful milestones you have to look forward to with them, I bet you don,t want to miss a one. Good luck to you and remember, be pro active with your health. God bless, sharon

I've been admitted for ketoacidosis twice in the past year because I suffer from diabulimia. It was worse the first time - I was throwing up all night and had diarrhea then I had awful stomach cramps. Then I couldn't breathe so we called an ambulance. I kept passing out due to lack of oxygen and then I remember waking up on a bed having all these drips put in me. The doctors were saying my circulation was really bad and kept pressing my forehead and feet. Then they put in a catheter in me (against my will!!!). I was in critical care for the night and stayed in the regular ward for nearly a week.

The second time, I had been throwing up all night and my breathing started to get bad. I knew what was happening so called the ambulance.

If I miss my lantus for a couple of nights in a row, then I start to go into the dka but back then I was on novomix.
