Q: What Is Beautiful?

Thats right, i want to know what you think is beautiful. BUT this is a two part question, this is both in regards to another person, and in regards to anything at all, painting, writting, or the world around you.
so tell me, do you prescribe to the Media's idea of beauty, or do you have your own?

Well mostly the media version of beautiful to me is often beautiful, but it depends who it is. Like, say, Nicole Kidman she is beautiful but I don't paticularly think someone like Angelina Jolie is, even though they're both made up to perfection. I also think it's funny how the media give us these pictures of impossible beauty for us to live up to, since the images are digitally edited, enhanced, and they have perfect hair, makeup, lighting, camera angles etc. In reality people don't look like that. I like seeing these photos of celebs with no makeup on or with cellulite because it makes them real!
Renne Zellweger is beautiful too, but she looked better with a bit of weight on her.

I once saw the most beautiful sunset. I was sitting next to a lake with a friend and the sun was disappearing behind the mountains and the sky was pink and the whole thing was reflected in the lake. Just lovely. I tried to take a picture, but it didn't turn out the way it really was.
I like landscapes, and sunsets.

beautiful is when you see someone you just cant take your eyes off or when you met someone so fascinating that it doesnt matter what their physical appearance is, they are simply beautiful. Beauty much like love is capable of bringing death as well as life into this world.

It's SUBscribe. Not PREscribe.

Anyway.

I think flowers are beautiful. And fall leaves. And music.

Beauty
Beauty comes from within.........the media tried to play upon "beauty" as a specific type or persona..........Being able to get up in the morning, to look up into the blue sky and see the clouds, to look around and see the trees, hear the birds and feel the wind blow.........simple beauty. Color is beautiful, any form of artistic ability shown is beautiful, be it a painting, playing the piano or violin, music in general can be beautiful......

In the public eye: Catherine Zeta-Jones and Ashley Judd are BEAUTIFUL

Classical music, Still life portraits and flower gardens I find beautiful

Beauty is entirely subjective, so I don't think there is any sense in debating or trying to come to a consensus on it.

Originality.

Creativity.

Our animal friends.

These are constants, for me, for beauty.

Oh yeah, music is beautiful too Very Happy

When you're in the middle of playing a piece and you just want it never to end and it gets you all worked up...ah, it's just lovely. And then when you're playing/listening to some slow, sweet aria or something.

I'm sooo in the mood for a practice right now lol

beauty is something which uplifts you, or exhilarates you. it stirs you from within in an almost magical way.

it can be something which is seen, touched, heard or felt.

this is beauitful to me. This picture is taken off from our deck at the lake we have a place at and go to every weekend. The picture was taken about 9:00 at night and the moon was just coming up. With our little boat off to the side.
I made it into a cross stitch pattern and I am going to cross stitch it..

I watched a show on Discovery and they described beaty (of a face) with symmetry.

That is a very interesting aspect of a face beaty. As more symmetriaal your face is the more beautifull you are.

That input made me think of this video, maybe have you seen it.

A (female) teacher once said in class that when a men says a lady's bedind is "beautiful", it's because they want beautiful children (it wasn't a male excuse as far as I understood).
So men are actually looking foor good babymakers Laughing

I met South Africa’s ‘Glamour Guru’ – Hannon Bothma – a couple of years ago, and he said that I looked like I escaped from the Betty Ford clinic before my rehab was done. Very Happy Very Happy
His motto is: there is no such thing as an ugly woman, only lazy ones. I guess I’m ugly and lazy because I just can’t care less about being pretty. As long as my teeth are brushed and my hair is combed, I’m ready for business.
I do wear make-up when I go to work, church etc, but I don’t bother when I just quickly want to go to the shops. Nobody there that I want to impress. I don’t even know them – so why bother? My fiancé likes me better without make-up anyway, and he’s the only one that matters.

I think that's an extremely rude thing to say to somebody. Did you reply? I would have been completely offended. Shocked

Oh my greatness no, Laura! I thought it was hilarious.
I guess if I was concerned with being beautiful I would have been offended, but no. Most people take pride in their appearance because it (to them) is a self respect- thing, but I couldn’t be bothered. I look what I look like. Dull. Pft!
I really like Hannon. Probably because of his sharp wit.

I could try and say beauty in regards to a person is a product of their personality as opposed to their physical attributes but I would be lying.
To me, a beautiful person is someone who stands out, whose looks are out of the ordinary or remarkable. A white woman with full lips, a black man with light eyes, someone with a long torso, or great muscle tone and proportions. To a lesser extent, a great sense of humor, confidence, and other positive characteristics simply add to beauty or partially make up for a lack of an aesthetically pleasing look(relatively of course).

My other idea of beauty is a little weird. I find a lot of beauty in suffering, as well as love. I find beauty in disaster as well as miracles. It's almost like when you hear a song that annoys you but you can't help but move about to it. It's that feeling of being moved that makes something beautiful to me, not necessarily that I feel "happy" from it. I was completely disgusted with the events surrounding the Alfred P Murrah Building bombing in OKC. One of the signature pictures of that time was of a fireman holding a bloody, half-naked young girl all covered in soot who had been freshly rescued from the rubble. On the surface, one may feel anger and hatred for the atrocity, that it killed and seriously injured young children as well as adults and sent trembles throughout the nation. But in my mind, that picture represented a lot of the good things about people that I appreciate. Helping the less fortunate and putting your own life in jeopardy to save another's. Similar thoughts arose after seeing pictures of 9/11 as well.
Essentially I guess what I'm saying is there is no element in life that is not without it's sense of beauty. Good thing too, b/c there are a lot of ugly things going on the world.
