I first found I had gallstones 15 yrs ago - huge amounts of small ones but because they weren't bothering me I decided not to have it out. I had a u/s scan every year and a liver blood test to make sure no complications.

All was well until 6 month ago when I started to get night time attacks of severe tightness pressure from navel to ribs going through to the back with very noisy bowels lots of pops and gurgles and lots of burping and lots of episodes of diarrhea all night so no sleep. Could get these attacks anything from every few days to a coupleof months between. I didn't have terrible pain under my right rib but this intense pressure below rib and accross front.

I had a u/s scan and as usual lots of small gallstones but no blocked ducts or inflamed gallbladder and told pancreas okay. All blood tests normal. Had sigmoidoscopy to check bowel and normal.

My surgeon says as I have had gallstones for so long they could be causing the problem without there being any serious complications like a blocked duct but he advises that the longer I leave having it out the more chance there is of serious complications.

He says he cannot be 100% certain my symptoms are gall bladder realted but he says he is sure they are.

Does anyone else get or has had the intense gas and diarrhea with gallstones that I am getting.

I am coming round to having it out but worry that I will go to all the trouble and risk of an operation and find out it makes no difference.

My surgeon says I can have a ultrasound scan that shows no serious complications and liver tests that are normal but can still be suffering from gallbladder trouble.

I'm terrified of hospitals and operations which doesn't help but I would feel better if I knew that this awful gas and diarrhea and waist level pain and pressure could be from my gallstones cos then I would be more confindent in saying whip it out!

Gallstones Causing This?
I have been having the same symptoms as you! I have had a few of what I am pretty sure are gallstone attacks but haven't had the gallbladder removed. Was in the hospital a few months ago on something unrelated and they did an ultrasound of my abdomen and saw that I do have gall stones. But about three weeks to a month ago I started having alot of gas. Mostly belching. Smelled terrible! Like rotten eggs. Now for the last couple of weeks I have been having diarrhea nearly every day. No pain otherwise. Alot of gurgling going on mostly in the evenings and diarrhea usually only in the morning when I get up. Anyone else with more info?

I have had very similar symptoms and have also suffered from pancreatitis before which can be caused by gallstones (although no gallstone have shown up in scans). Just wondering if either of you did have the operation to have your gallbladder removed and whether or not it relieved the symptoms?

diarrhea
I am having the same symptons, gas, loud gurgling, beltching and diarrhea. I also have gallstones, small and the doctor is not sure if it is causing the problem. However, as I have been told having you gallbladder out can actually cause diarrhea. Have tried librax, but it makes me to sleepy, tried digestive enzymes; however, it is still happening. Anyone who has had their gallbladder out and it helped? Any Alcohol, even 2 glasses of wine seems to bring this on, my favorite breakfast, oatmeal is now a nightmare. This started 4 months ago and continues weekly with a few goods days here and there. Any suggestions?

I have been diagnosed with small gall stones and thickening of the gall bladder (and it has caused lots of pain, so am on a waiting list to have it removed). The last few months I have been suffering more and more from diahorrea and it's more than once a day now, usually in the morning. Not sure if it's related but suspect it is. Would like to hear if anyone has had their disgestive problems relieved by romval of their gall bladder.

Gallstones/ Diarrhea
Well I am glad to see I am not the only person with Gallstones who is suffering from the near daily Diarrhea and gurgling and gas....it is horrid. I am scheduled to have my Gallbladder removed in a month and am counting down the days. Can anyone who has had these symptoms (which I firmly believe are related to having Gallbladder issues) tell me if they go away after surgery?....I sure hope so!!.

Hello. Quick update, I had my gallbladder removed on 29th September and am pleased to confirm the removal cured the problem just about immediately (although LOTS of gas discomfort for nearly a week from the procedure itself) and everything seems fine now. Good luck for your op efuhr!
