Gallstones are the most frequent cause of an inflamed gallbladder. Know the common symptoms of gallstones or gallstone attack....
I first found I had gallstones 15 yrs ago - huge amounts of small ones but because they weren't bothering me I decided not to have it out. I had a u/s scan every year and a liver blood test to make sure no complications.

All was well until 6 month ago when I started to get night time attacks of severe tightness pressure from navel to ribs going through to the back with very noisy bowels lots of pops and gurgles and lots of burping and lots of episodes of diarrhea all night so no sleep. Could get these attacks anything from every few days to a coupleof months between. I didn't have terrible pain under my right rib but this intense pressure below rib and accross front.

I had a u/s scan and as usual lots of small gallstones but no blocked ducts or inflamed gallbladder and told pancreas okay. All blood tests normal. Had sigmoidoscopy to check bowel and normal.

My surgeon says as I have had gallstones for so long they could be causing the problem without there being any serious complications like a blocked duct but he advises that the longer I leave having it out the more chance there is of serious complications.

He says he cannot be 100% certain my symptoms are gall bladder realted but he says he is sure they are.

Does anyone else get or has had the intense gas and diarrhea with gallstones that I am getting.

I am coming round to having it out but worry that I will go to all the trouble and risk of an operation and find out it makes no difference.

My surgeon says I can have a ultrasound scan that shows no serious complications and liver tests that are normal but can still be suffering from gallbladder trouble.

I'm terrified of hospitals and operations which doesn't help but I would feel better if I knew that this awful gas and diarrhea and waist level pain and pressure could be from my gallstones cos then I would be more confindent in saying whip it out!

Gallstones Causing This?
I have been having the same symptoms as you! I have had a few of what I am pretty sure are gallstone attacks but haven't had the gallbladder removed. Was in the hospital a few months ago on something unrelated and they did an ultrasound of my abdomen and saw that I do have gall stones. But about three weeks to a month ago I started having alot of gas. Mostly belching. Smelled terrible! Like rotten eggs. Now for the last couple of weeks I have been having diarrhea nearly every day. No pain otherwise. Alot of gurgling going on mostly in the evenings and diarrhea usually only in the morning when I get up. Anyone else with more info?

I have recently had a scan after months of gas, bloating, diarrhea, pain in my back and abdomen, they have told me it is one gallstone, but it is in the gallbladder and not blocking anything. I do NOT want an operation, but the pain is getting more frequent. Although it is not severe, it is very uncomfortable, i believe my stone is on the move, which is disconcerting. But to get back to your question, yes gurgling, belching, gas, diarrhea, all symptoms

I have had very similar symptoms and have also suffered from pancreatitis before which can be caused by gallstones (although no gallstone have shown up in scans). Just wondering if either of you did have the operation to have your gallbladder removed and whether or not it relieved the symptoms?

diarrhea
I am having the same symptons, gas, loud gurgling, beltching and diarrhea. I also have gallstones, small and the doctor is not sure if it is causing the problem. However, as I have been told having you gallbladder out can actually cause diarrhea. Have tried librax, but it makes me to sleepy, tried digestive enzymes; however, it is still happening. Anyone who has had their gallbladder out and it helped? Any Alcohol, even 2 glasses of wine seems to bring this on, my favorite breakfast, oatmeal is now a nightmare. This started 4 months ago and continues weekly with a few goods days here and there. Any suggestions?

Get it out. You dont want to have this done as a emergency. The diahrea is Not common. This surgery is very common and done thru a scope. If it is a emergency and u wait too long the gallbladder can become necrotic and more trouble to get out sometimes having to make it a open procedure. Which is more painful and more time in hospital.

I have been diagnosed with small gall stones and thickening of the gall bladder (and it has caused lots of pain, so am on a waiting list to have it removed). The last few months I have been suffering more and more from diahorrea and it's more than once a day now, usually in the morning. Not sure if it's related but suspect it is. Would like to hear if anyone has had their disgestive problems relieved by romval of their gall bladder.

Gallstones/ Diarrhea
Well I am glad to see I am not the only person with Gallstones who is suffering from the near daily Diarrhea and gurgling and gas....it is horrid. I am scheduled to have my Gallbladder removed in a month and am counting down the days. Can anyone who has had these symptoms (which I firmly believe are related to having Gallbladder issues) tell me if they go away after surgery?....I sure hope so!!.

Hello. Quick update, I had my gallbladder removed on 29th September and am pleased to confirm the removal cured the problem just about immediately (although LOTS of gas discomfort for nearly a week from the procedure itself) and everything seems fine now. Good luck for your op efuhr!

Recently I have been having issues which may be gallbladder related. I have ocassionally suffered the pain under my right hand side rib cage, extreme diarrhea after eating, pressure around my sternum and stomach cramping after eating meals. I am scheduled for an ultrasound next week where my doctor thinks I have an 80/20 chance if gallstones. Has anyone out there experienced these symptoms and was surgery required?

If you have these same symptoms, check into GERD (reflux) and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) too - very similar symptoms. A reputable site to learn more is the Mayo Clinic.

I have the same symptoms as described above. The chest pain feels like a spear has been thrown through the area of my sternum straight out my back. Sometimes only my back hurts, on upper left side. It is worst at night, often waking me up at night. I thought it was GERD. A very recent ultrasound of gallbladder showed many tiny gallstones and sludge. I will be having the HIDA scan and scheduling EGD next week. The mild proton pump inhibitors, like Prilosec, helped at first but then doc put me on Dexilant, another PPI but time-released. It worked GREAT for a few weeks. Now I'm taking a Prilosec in AM and Dexilant in PM. I've elevated the head of my bed, I don't have any food intake at least 3 hrs before bedtime, and I've cut out all caffeine. I don't want my gallbladder removed because diarrhea is a common side effect, and it's bad enough having nearly daily diarrhea now while I have my gallbladder. I will post back when I know more after all of the tests.

I'm awaiting to have my gall bladder removed, they showed up on U.S scan about 5 years ago.
I've had no pain until last July, but since ive had biliary attacks as described above, including severe diarrhoea more recently in the mornings. The biliary attacks werent so frequent being on a low fat diet, i had decided not to have the op, but have been told the condition can damage other organs - hence me waiting to have the op!
My grandson had his removed last Feb (2010) he still gets bouts of diarrhoea after eating - sometimes he has just as much pain in his upper abdomen as before.

Have same symptoms - very loud gurgling, belching and extreme pain in upper right abdomen followed by diarrhea next day. I also have had Crohn's for 30 years but never felt like this. Scheduled to have gallbladder out in one month. Anybody out there have these symptoms and then had gallbladder removed with relief?

I started the diarrhea 8 years ago. I think because I was so broke for a year that I couldn't take my usual vitamins and minerals. So it set up a cycle. But diarrhea was the most consistent symptom.
Finally, After figuring out it was indeed gallstones, went on the Atkins cholesterol flush (Rutin, B6, E complex, inositol, PABA, (all high doses-1-2 grams)fish oil, taurine, Vit C) and immediately flushed small ones- bright emerald green in toilet. Flushed them out over a year, increasing to large ones. Those neede a boost, so took vinegar flush (a quart diluted in water over 3 days. And that cleared the rest of them out! But you have to stay on this protocol )reduce the doses of vitamins, and take vinegar- they do come in pills too- daily or they will come back. Also, in my research, gallstone rats can be cleared of them with garlic, onions and fenugreek daily. (Take those too. ) Sometimes if the foundational problem is not fixed or kept at bay (with nutrients) even after gall bladder removal, the liver will keep making them and cause the same symptoms even without a gallbladder. Risk factor for bowel cancer too. Sorry, I know the gallbladder has a proper function and i want to keep it.

Gallstones
I have had the pain accross my back for 20 years with no clue what was causing it. Then last year I went to hospital thinking I was having a heart attack...felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest...but that was ruled out. Noone has ever suggested gallstones. I have had a lot of gas from both ends for about a year and indigestion that no pill could touch. I was having an ultra sound for other reasons when the stones were found. And since learning of the stones I have had constant discomfort in my chest and diarrhea has begun. Go figure. Im seeing my doctor in a week and will be requesting the surgery for releif. Cant wait.

hello im 17 and have been suffering from severe gallstone attacks for the past 3 years only a few months ago was i diagnosed for certain
i was rushed to A&E several times during that time as i wasnt aware what was going on and had never been in such dyer pain it felt like something was forcing its way out of my uper abdomin the attacks are sudden i have no knowledge or hint that an attack is going to come on its at total random i'll be fine then the next minute im on the floor screaming in pain my skin would feel flaming hot but id be shivering and asking my mum to pull the covers over me as i was so cold my throat would feel tight and burning i would feel sick to my stomach occasionally throw up and im unable to lay down flat or move at all i justkinda zone out completely the pain takesover
i use to get the attacks every few days usually at ridiculous times in the night i would wake everyone up scraming and crying in pain unable to move talk properly and even breathe properly its the worst thing iv ever experiance in my life and many times after an attack iv told my mum id rather die then experiance another one of them may sound dramatic but i couldnt handle the pain anyway a few months ago i was rushed to A & E again this time they admitted me and i was in there for 3 days on morphine and drips and they told me i had gallstones but refused to removed them or my gallbladder as i was so young after i left i continued to ave the attacks but this time they last even longer and i have alot of dioreah <sorry dont know how to spell that but its very bad it burns and its an unusual color i also have a huge amount of pain frequantly in my side and my upper back nd feel sick often at random moments my stomach always feels empty even after eating and i just feel terrible i know they wont remove it and idk what to do :/ its kinda runing my life

This is all very interesting. I first had 'attacks' a couple of years back, then nothing until 2 months ago. Was waking up around 4 in the morning with pain and general discomfort, followed by a few hours of diarrhea, then would feel rotten and unable to eat much for the next couple of days. Dr said it was stress. Haven't been able to eat after 7pm at night for the last couple of months, or it will set off an attack, or even have a decent sized evening meal. Have lost weight (& I was already thin). Just got a 2nd opinion and am having an ultrasound in a couple of days to see if I do have gallstones.

I have found eating small regular meals helps, as I said before, not eating after 7pm, and avoiding crisps. I don't generally eaty greasy food, other than chips, and don't eat dairy anyway. That way I can go for weeks at a time feeling OK (until I slip up by eating too much or eating too late). The natural therapies approach sounds the way to go for me, if I do have gallstones.

Australian?
Hmmm,
This sounds exactly like me. I have had five admissions to A & E and am curious to know whether you are Australian. I say this because despite extreme pain, they labelled me "catagory 2" (the scale is 1-5, with 1 being worst). I heard that a catagory 1 has recently waited 8 months for surgery, so figure I must wait about 2 years. I've decided to go abroad as a result and have it done in Brazil at a fraction of the cost. It truly ruins my life and I am unable to work....or play!

Gallblader stone
Last 2 year i was diagnosed with gallblader stone when i was having a bad vomit after food. So i went to do ultrasound scan and it came out to be i have about 5mm stone at my gallblader stone. Then i did a scope at my stomach and i had a red stomach so i was given a gastric pills for relief. It was ok until recently i had an attack oof stomach pain and i thought i had a food poison. So i went to hospital for treatment and the doctor give me medicine for food poison. Since that whenever i had food i will have to go toilet for pass. Until last Sat i had my nighmare begin after my dinner. I begin to vomit and later accompany by diarrhea. Normally this diarrhea was happen during night time, ihad sleepless night. I used to fell cold at night so i didn't on my fan at all.

I've had gallbladder problems for 3 years now and it took 3 hospital visits for me to realize that eating a nearly fat-free diet is the only way to avoid any serious symptoms. I still have gas and moderate pain sometimes but nothing like before. I hope it helps someone even though its not a cure. Stay strong the human spirit is surprisingly strong!
