Q: Can males get a False Negative reading for chalmydia infecti
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 10th, 2007
I was feeling a bit off down there, so I got a pap done. It came back saying I was positive for chlamydia. Ok, so I tell my bf of 4 months this and he goes to the health district and they give him the antibiotics and they make him pee in a cup. The nurse there said that the tests there are 100% effective. They do not lie. I have been looking into this, HE came back Negative. He's automatically assuming promiscuos situations. I have been faithful, the last person Iwas involved with was tested and came back clean. Can males get a false Negative reading for chalmydia? I need this for my own mind now, because we broke up over this. Ive read everywhere that males are more likely to have a false Negative reading. Please Help Me

Doctors mustn’t give your boyfriend antibiotics before administering tests to diagnose the cause of any condition. Chlamydia is not found in the urine but in a sample taken from the urethra before urination. If antibiotics are given before the test or he urinated just before the test was done, the results might appear false negative.

It is also possible that you tested positive for a Chlamydia infection a long time before you met your boyfriend. A Chlamydia-infection has the ability to remain dormant without symtpoms or with very minor symptoms in 30-50% of all cases.
