schizophrenia has been found to be related with parts of the brain, such as the thalamus, being smaller. it has also been found that people with long lasting schizophrenia and manic depression tend to have a decrease in grey matter in the brain. sometimes, to an extreme. this causes the brain to missinterpret sensory information, and causes hallucination, as well as delusions, in bad cognition.
pretty much, schizophrenia and manic depression destroy the brain. literally.
another thing that has been found is that schizophrenics lack gamma activity, which is what causes bad cognotion, delusions, and hallucinations to begin with.

coming to a cure. meditation:

I know you´ve heard a lot about the benefits of meditation, but most of you ignore them.
meditation, first of all, increases the amount of gamma activity in the brain (this goes for compassionate, all-loving meditation). this increase in gamma activity (sometimes longrange activity) is what causes you to understand things better, have more control over yourself, have ballanced emotions, and an overall connection in your brain.
no medication actually brings the brain to gamma activity.

experienced meditators have increased gamma activity even while out of meditation. probably because they manage to keep hold of this all-loving compassionate state of conscoiusness.

so what about the decrease in grey matter? here it goes:

meditation increases the overall amount of grey matter in the brain. even for those who only meditate 40 minutes a day. and what do schizophrenics and bipolars lack? grey matter.

so meditate and lay off all those drugs (meds). because they do not bring the brain to gamma activity, and they do not rebuild the brain ether.
meditate and work out your brain.

how to meditate: first off, there are lots of different meditations, but I will tell you a simple one that I´ve picked up on. this is one which increases gamma activity and seems to rebuild grey matter.

first, sit down and relax. preferably around a place where there is a lot of plants and birds, etc..
then feel like you have complete acceptance and compassion for everythign about you. start with the sound of the birds and the plants around you. then feel compassion and love for even things that are non-living. this love is not with desire. you don´t desire to pet a dog, but you care about the dog and accept it as it is. note that this love must become unconditional, and go to all things, including your body. (not love of ideas, but of things).
you will notice a hightened awareness after a while, and that everything in more clear. after you become experienced, you will become more conscious of things, and this feeling will grow stronger.
you have begun your spiritual journey.

Do you mean just compassion meditation (sending out positive thoughts to people), or shynyata (paying attention to your breath) meditation?

focusing on the breaths is sort of just a tool to get you relaxed. you can try it if you want.
for some people, this compassion meditating will get them to higher awareness. This hapened to me yesterday, but not today. if the mind is overstressed, you might have trouble with this and get ahead of yourself.

I have found today that I was getting ahead of myself and nothing was getting done, so I just relaxed and let my mind flow. I relaxed my muscles and my thoughts. I sort of just let my mind be aware of my environment without judging or without thinking. this brings your brain activity down below gamma, but since you don't have thoughts to process, it doesn't affect you.
this worked and allowed me to process my environment properly, which is something I have a hard time doing when I'm overexcited. once I can give my mind a long enough break from what I've put it through, I can start hightening my awareness. what this means is becoming more aware of things while still having a relaxed mind. The meditation I talked about in the original post is what you would want to do.

what I didn't realized is that for some people, the mind was put through so much, that the meditation I posted in the original post just isnt posible.
so if you can't do the first meditation, or find it not hightening your awareness, just do the one where you relax the mind.

I'm talking to someone right now who is very experienced with both meditation, and psychedelics. He's giving me some good advise.

that was a reply to your post actually. It´s also kind of an add-on to the original one, since it´s quite important information.

Relaxing your mind and letting it be is how you give it a rest. Then practicing meditation where you have to focus is working it out.
sort of.

See, the problem is though that the lack of grey matter is believed to be a physiological problem. In some cases, it could be a side effect of the disease and easy to work out with meditation, but in many cases I'd have to say there is fundamentally something wrong with the body that causes the decrese in matter. Many doctors, thankfully, are beginning to believe the key lies in what we eat. There was actually an outstanding article in Discover from about three months ago where doctors are discussing how Autism is now being found to be related primarily, well in most cases, to poor diet, allergies, reactions to medications and so forth. Hopefully they get a clue and continue on to schizophrenia.

i wish i were a psychiatrist, because they probably sit there all day doing nothing, and once in a while, they do a study and get payed.
forget what most psychiatrists are starting to think. it is well known that a bad diet without phosphorus and selenium as well as some other stuff can cause psychological problems.
I can remember when I was a kid that my parents told me this stuff. but "just recently, psychiatrists are finding that a bad diet can cause psychological problems". ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

psychiatrists are what cause the psychological issues man.

buddhists eat rice dammit, and their brains grow bigger anyways.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't eat healthy. i definately do.
but the way you think affects the way your body works. allergies and racing thoughts are caused by stress.
masaru emoto proved that your thoughts affect the molecular structure of water. and he's not some random dude ether. this has been approved by many big people like the CIA (not good people, but on this I believe them).
the thing is, no one believes these things because they're new. but because they're new doesn't mean they're bs.

btw. I meditated (compassion meditation) today while on two 1hr walks. I felt something click, and when I got back from the last walk, I felt a slightly hightened awareness, and more compassionate about others. I didn't feel angry and the urge to put people down that I usually feel.
sometimes you will feel weird after meditating, especially when you first start, because it's literally a work out for your brain. You might get mild dissociation or feel sudden depression or distress, or even flashbacks from previous psychedelic use (I got some intense moments of derealization today (marijuana flashbacks)) at the beggining.

one thing. don't try to hold on to a specific feeling if it isn't working for you. sometimes you might think you are feeling compassion, but you will not feel a hightened awareness because you aren't feeling it right (as weird as that sounds). look for the feeling that helps you.

so peace, and good luck on your meditation if you chose to do it.
