am I Allergic to Something ? dry cough, stinging behind nose

Hello. So around June 10th I developed a sort of dry cough and it went on for three weeks at which point I also felt a stinging behind my nose as though I may have a sinus infection. My Dr. gave me antibiotics which didn't change anything except from that point on I had large amounts of clear mucous dripping down my throat(I spit like 10 times a day on a good day) and a less frequent, more wet cough. I went back to him a few weeks later and also told him of acid reflux Ive been having. He's told me to take pepcid AC(which has gotten rid of my reflux almost 100%), and he gave me another round of antibiotics, which also didn't make any difference. It's August now, and my post nasal drip is yellow and thick in the morning during my first spit, but the rest of the day its clear, but still excessive. my nasal passages are a bit inflamed and I still have a mild cough, although better than it was to begin with in June. A few days ago I saw an ear-nose&throat specialist. He decided to give me a cat scan of my sinuses because I'd had this "sinus infection" for too long. I got the results back and APPARENTLY my sinuses look fine and I don't even appear to have an infection, although I certainly feel like I do. He's decided to refer me to an allergy specialist and he told me to use nsasl wash 3X a day and nasalcort before I go to bed. I must say the immediate effects of the nasalcort are pleasant. I just sprayed some up there and It seems like all my post nasal drip has stopped for the time-being. However in the morning I know it will be back. Ive been using it for 3 days. I only seem to have to cough when I laugh a certain way or exhale strongly with my neck in a certain position because I feel a slight vibration, almost a wheeze in my throat, and it makes me want to cough hard because it feels like there's something in my throat. However I never cough anything up, and I was trying so hard to cough something up this afternoon that I began to taste blood. I figure I was forcibly coughing way too hard. Anyway, does this all sound like it could be an allergy to anyone? Maybe... swelling of my airway slightly... and the post nasal drip... I sneeze once and a while and I do have red dry itchy eyes mildly. This afternoon my throat and nose were itchy and I was coughing a lot. I just feel as though if it were an allergy though I'd have a runny nose and hives and a lot worse symptoms. What mainly worried me is that weird cough w/ the exhale/laughing wheeze. It's a little weird. My brother has asthma so I'm worried I might have that too! But if this sounds like it could be an allergy someone please let me know. Since ive come home from college (june 1st) I sleep in a bedroom with 2 old cats who like to sleep on my bed and stuff. I'm thinking this may have to do with my onset of symptoms. Someone help! Thanks! If you have any other ideas for what you think might be wrong with me let me know. I just want to feel like myself again. I cant wait to see the allergy specialist. (by the way my family doctor TOLD me he did not think I had allergies, but the ear nose & throat specialist seems to think otherwise. who's more likely to be correct?)

Hmmmm. You've got a lot going on there. I'd tend to believe an ENT specialist before a GP. They're the specialists, right?

It does seem that you're experiencing a rather long, chronic cold. But...don't worry. I have the feeling that it will go away in time. Also, you might want to try to have the cats sleep somewhere else for now..and clean EVERYTHING in your room. I mean, dust the shelves and blinds, rent a water-vacuum from the grocery store, wash the sheets...CLEAN YOUR ROOM 100%.

How's the saline solution going?

They've been sleeping somewhere else for a little over a week, and I cleaned my whole room, and I have felt better! I tend to believe feeling better is all in my head though maybe. I mean, I deff. don't feel 100% better. I still have some post nasal drip thats very thick and the only way to get it out is to use saline. And, if I use the saline before bed everything drips into my throat while I'm sleeping and I wake up in the morning coughing up junk from my throat. BUT... I do see improvement.. and I'm actually going to get a scratch test for pet dander and molds and dust mites on Wednesday. So I'll let you know how that goes. =) Thanks!
