I have an infection in my left ear supposedly caused by inflamation of the tmj or tmd i think the doctor said. I have had a black out short time ago only for a minute or two approx can this be assosiated with the imflamation of tmj or ear infection combined with pain medication as I blacked out resulting in me having a motor vehicle accident and i dont remember the event and am seeking any information sites or an explanation weather this could have been a black out or similer caused by the infection and imflamation and or medication regards

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your vehicle accident. I hope everyone was okay. I personally have never heard of TMJ causing ear INFECTION. Other ear problems - YES! There is a host of TMJ related ear problems such as vertigo, tinnitus, fullness feeling, pain, etc., but I didn't think infection was one of them. If your TMJ is inflamed, it will frequently affect your ears because of the shared muscles, nerves, arteries, etc.

How is your doctor treating you? Are you seeing a TMJ specialist of kind? What type of medication were you taking when you blacked out? Some meds can cause serious problems, tho, but blackouts wouldn't be common I think. Some people react very strongly to narcotics and if something was mixed with them (i.e. alcohol, another med), a blackout could occur. I'm not sure if vertigo causes blackouts. You might want to check this out. Severe pain can sometimes/rarely cause blackouts I believe.

Since the accident, have you been seen by a doctor; maybe a neurologist? I'll do some research myself to see if I can find any websites for you. It would help to know what treatment and medications you are taking, if, you feel comfortable revealing this info (or you could PM me).

I just hope and pray that you are okay. If you need help, let me know.

God bless...
Carol
