Last year my 8 year old daughter began complaining that her ankle was sore. It progressively got more painful over a 1 week period until she couldn't walk on it with out excruciating pain. We thought she sprained her ankle. It was swoolen, hot and painful. Then she started complaining about pain in her knee on the other leg. Within a few days she was completely unable to walk! We measured swoolen joints and muscles showing 1 to 3 inches of swelling in diameter around a calf muscle, a knee, an ankle etc. She showed swelling in random muscles and joints in both legs and screamed out in pain when her legs were lightly touched! Doctors ran a variety of tests. She had no fever. Her legs were x-rayed, they did an ultrasound on her legs, ran blood tests for signs of infection and all tests came out normal. The doctors were perplexed. They sent her home and as quickly as the symptoms began, they subsided until the swelling was completely gone and within a few days was running around like a normal child. She still complains now and again of pain in her legs or an ankle but nothing as seroius as that one isolated event has occurred since. Does anyone have an idea of what this was? Could it be CA-MRSA?
