Especially eHealthy
Long periods are not good, and should be discussed with an ob-gyn.

Re: Period Lasting to Long
Hi Poohbear ~ Me Too! I am in the process of trying to figure this out with my gyno! I went without a period almost 3 months... had "fluttering" (mentioned on other boards) feelings now and again and testing for pregnancy was negative. Then out of the blue had a heavy period with clotting that lasted about 10-12 days. Then skipped about a week or 10 days and period w/ clotting started again and hasn't stopped!!! Sad After a trip to my Dr. last week she is thinking "peri-meno" but is running some tests and did another pap.

One thing to be VERY careful of during prolonged bleeding is your iron levels. Mine 9 months ago (at last annual was 16 ~ last week I was barely hanging onto 10 ~ she told me most folks need transfusion when they drop below 9) so she put me on iron supplements a multi vitamin with strict iron rich diet!

I am getting really worried at this point and am to return for re-check on the 11th. One option she gave may be lo-dose birth control pill which at 45 I am not anxious to start.... will post again when I have results next week.

Well, I know how everyone feels. I have always had a period that lasted at least a week, but more like 2 weeks long. I am now 20, I went to the gynecologist, in fact I've been to two different ones. All they keep doing is telling me it's totally normal, just hormones. They even told me there is no reason why I can never reproduce and everything is normal. So, I guess each body is different, we are just the unlucky ones with long periods.
