Q: Can I Safely Ignore This Symptom?

If I sneeze, I herniate a disk. It's always fun to discover what new strange and different symptoms I'll get each time. Rolling Eyes

This one is relatively minor, but starting to drive me nuts.

At night in bed while I sleep, my thumb, index finger and middle finger goes numb. Kind of like asleep, but not asleep (you back people know what I mean). To get the feeling back, I need to get up and walk around for a bit. It's neat, I get like 30 mins sleep, get up and walk around, then another 45 mins sleep, then get up again - all night long. In the day I'm starting to feel like a zombie from lack of sleep.

Here's my question: I am concerned that if I just sleep through the numbness and let it remain all night long, I could cause some kind of damage, or cause it to remain even after I get up. Is this possible? I think I can learn to just sleep through it and not get up when it goes numb, but is this wise?

Thoughts?

Hello Rick,

Yes, I have a thought - See a spine surgeon, and do so without delay. Perhaps you may have a pinched nerve in your upper back.

Hi. Rick,
I couldn't help but respond to your question.
I don't know your history about herniated discs so you will excuse me if what I am about to say does not apply. I'm not a doctor.

All numbness symptoms might not be related to spine problems. You speak of night pain and numbness indicating thumb, forfinger and index finger.
Those symptoms can be associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.
Check with your ortho doc to make sure something else hasn't popped up in your health problems.
