My question is has anyone ever had/done type 1 diabetes without going on insulin?
I suspected my son (12y.o.) had diabetes, bought a blood glucose kit, tested him and his levels were very high and immed. put him on a no carb diet with herbal supplements. While checking his blood sugar levels. I took him to a Naturopathic Dr. and we both suspected type 2. Then I took him for his full blood work up at the hospital. While waiting for the results I kept very accurate records of his food and levels and kept his levels under 100 for the next several weeks.
When we went back to the N.D. the results were in her words "the mildest case of type 1 diabetes she has ever seen and he should go on a low dose of insulin.
I really wanted a second/third opinion. I called another N.D. who recommended Dr. Bernstein in N.Y. While I would love to go to him it is over $6000 and I have no insurance so that may be an option down the road.
Yesterday I took him to an M.D. / PhD. that uses strictly homeopathic medicines now. She was a little kooky and doesn't really believe that he is type 1. She wants to do some tests with him in a few weeks.
Anyway, his levels are always below 100 with diet and supplements and I am in a quandry as to whether I should put him on insulin or continue on with what we are doing and get his blood work redone in a couple of months to see what his levels are now that he has normal levels for the 3 month time period.
I just want what is safest and best for my child.
