Severe Pain In Upper Right Quadrant Posted: 08-08-07 06:50am
This is going to be a really long post. I
apologize. But I would REALLY appreciate
it if anyone could tell me if they've ever
had this experience and/or if they have
ANY idea what is wrong with me!
Ok, for point of reference, today is
Wednesday. Also - I have no gallbladder.
It was removed almost 5 years ago.
On Friday I started having severe pain in
my upper right quadrant (very localized,
one specific spot hurts). I can't lay
down as that hurts worse than anything.
It also hurts to walk, talk, laugh &
breathe. Basically the only thing that
doesn't hurt is to sit completely still.
I went to the emergency room on Saturday.
They did blood work, urine test, catscan
& xray, but they couldn't find
anything. They gave me a numbing stomach
concoction that they use for ulcers and
acid, but it didn't do anything. They
gave me morphine which took the edge off
of the pain but it still hurt. They sent
me home and told me to call my doctor on
Monday if it still hurt.
It didn't hurt AT ALL on Sunday. Then
Monday morning (about 10 am) it started to
hurt again. I called my doctor and got in
at 3:00. By the time I got there I was in
so much pain that when they tried to get
me to lay down to examine me (and later
for xrays again) I was crying hysterically
and basically screaming. They called my
husband to come get me because they didn't
want me driving. They did more xrays and
blood work and urine tests. They still
couldn't find anything. They told me that
they thougth it could be: 1) Gallstone in
my bile duct. 2) Muscle spasms. They
made me an appointment for a GI doctor for
Friday. (It was the quickest they could
get me in). They gave me the same numbing
stuff that they ER had given me (still did
nothing) and prescription fo Levsid, which
is supposed to help with muscle spasms. I
went to the pharmacy, got the
prescription, took it, it did nothing for
the pain. My husband called the doctor
back and they told him to take me to the
ER.
Went to the ER that night (Monday still).
The doctor did more tests. He gave me a
shot of some pain killer that actually did
help for the most part. Still didn't take
the pain away completely, but definitely
made it 1) bearable and 2) so that I
didn't care (lol). He tested for a blood
clot in my lung and then told me that
there was nothing he could do except help
me with the pain until I could get to the
GI doctor on Friday. He said that he
didn't think it was a gallstone, though,
because my bilirubin level was not
elevated. He gave me a prescription for
Lortab and sent me home.
Tuesday (yesterday) it still hurt but with
the Lortab was definitely managable. I
even worked for about 6 hours.
Today it doesn't hurt at all again. Of
course, I don't know if that means
whatever it was is all better or if that
means that it's just going to come back
again.
