Q: What can explain a missed period ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 8th, 2007
I just began having sex a month ago. We used a condom but its been 4 weeks since my last period. I am experiencing sore swollen breasts, moodiness, fatigue, heartburn, constipation, dizziness, and sometimes nausea. I took a pregnancy test a couple of days ago and it was negative. Am i pregnant? or is there another explanation?

Lack of the period is the first serious sign of pregnancy but not always. Lack of the period can be due to other reasons, too: hypogonadism, functional ovarian cyst etc. You can do another pregnancy test and if it is negative again, you are not pregnant. Functional ovarian cyst is the most common reason for delayed period. You can consult your gynecologist if you don’t get your period in the next 7 days.
