Q: Shingles Immunization

Last week, my husband and I both got the shingles immunization. I had an extreme reaction, redness, swelling, itching, burning and itchy eyes, sore and burning throat and a lot of pain and itching in the arm of the shot. My doctor prescribed the M-pac antihistimines, Augmenten for antibiotics and Vicodin for the pain. The pain, redness, swelling and itchy, burning eyes are gone, but the sore throat and general tiredness and weakness remain. Is this normal? My husband had a very mild redness at the sight of the shot. I am in very good health as I work out 5 days a week, am 65 and in very good condition. Feeling teary-eyed and unable to complete tasks in totally not normal for me.

Hi Corky

You poor Lady... feeling down and low is really upsetting you, and I feel for you...
Shingles is an eruption of the nerves, like a bad case of Chicken pox. The immuninisation drug you have been given by your doctor is now causing you tiredness and making you distressed, so it may have given you the symptoms of Shingles.

Take it easy, make sure you eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg, to keep your strength up, and drink plenty of fluids, and see your doctor if you have any doubts, he/she should have given you advise to what may be the expected effects after, and how to overcome this.

Take care and hope you and your husband feel better soon

Ginger
