Q: Help My Voice!

I am 17 and since I was 15 I have been having problems with my voice. I use to have a very strong voice and was very comfortable with it, but now I can't even talk in loud places because no one will hear me. I feel that my voice is always low and raspy and I can never clear my throat. I am very uncomfortable with my voice, and its so bad that I barley talk anymore and my friends can't understand why. Once about a year ago I took a medicine called Mucinex for about a week and my voice felt normal so i stopped using it, then about a week later all the symptoms came back. I tried using it again but now that wont even work. WHATS WRONG WITH MY VOICE!

hiya there...first off do you smoke atall?? if not are you around others that do for a substantial amount of time...if not to both questions then go to your gp whom will defer you im sure to an ent specialist, it could be like me over a certain amount of years you havent been using your voice box properly, i know it sounds abit weird but i was amazed when i had a test and i had to hummm and argghh whilst he looked at me throat and i was told i didnt use it properly only half of it and i was sent to a speech therapist at 34!!! i didnt even know i wasnt using it right!! i was also told to drink lots of water and steam over a bowl frequently and it does help, i have surgery coming up this thursday on me adenoids and sepotoplasty and im hoping again after that my voice will improve even further!!anyway take care and i hope you get it sorted soonxx

Hey
I know exactly how you feel. I am 25, I have also had voice problems for the last 2 years. Nothing hurts, but it feels like my throat is throbbing. I do have a voice but it is raspy, I definetly cant perceive my voice to anyone out loud. I also noticed when I have a cold, my voice sounds better, or once in a blue moon my voice will sound better then go back to raspy. I have been to an ENT, he said it could be heart burn, gave me the purple pill..that didnt help, plus I dont have frequent heart burn, tried it a few months..no effect. I'm not doctor but I think its my tonsels...but I think your experiencing exactly what I am.

Re:
Well, I didn't really notice a change. i'm about to ask for another prescription for nexium though. Just because I'm in despiration to try anything to get my voice back. What is even harder is that I'm actually a Customer Service Supervisor and haven't had my normal voice in 2 years.
