I eat meat, but I don't eat a whole lot of it.

I will probably give my children meat. I think people should only feed their children that way if they have the advice of a dietician. Fact is, our bodies do need protein and children need to have the essentials for their body, it's very important.

as long as my kid is healthy she can choose her own way

i will never force anything upon my child
if she wants to eat meat thats her choice
if she wants to be a vegitarian i will support her on that route as well

Well i eat meat so i'm guessing i will give that to my child too. When my child is old enough to make the choice to not eat meat then i guess that's her choice. I know for myself i enjoy meat.

I'm neither. I eat meat and I like it darnit!

I tried going vegetarian and I may go back once I'm back at school, but I don't have an ethical issue with eating animals. I'd kill, gut, and cook them myself if I had to.

I do feel Americans eat way too much meat, and I don't like eating it all the time. And I'm against the abuse the animals suffer. So when I eat, I will often chose dishes without meat if I have a choice.

I will raise my child with proper serving sizes of meat, as I feel the protein is an important building block, plus I don't want them to have a restricted palette.

I happen to adore meat. I give my son meat as well. I know that I have days or sometimes weeks when I don't eat it (normally because I start to feel sluggish and getting rid of meat for a while puts me back on track). I really don't fret over things like that. When my son is older if he decides that he doesn't want meat then I'll make vegetarian dishes for him. I'm not fussed.

Carnivore over here. Any kids I might have will probably be raised the same way. Unless they don't want meat, of course.

I was raised a vege. I did not have any meat until I was 14. I started eating meat because I developed a blood disorder involving protien. I think raising your kid a vege is fine but take into account what type of blood type your child is. I would not have had the disorder if I had been A like her. I am O by the way which needs more protien for some reason. My doctor was explaining it to me but I will be honest I kind of blanked out (he has voice like the teacher from Ferris Bueller).

I tried to be a vegetarian in high school (I just don't particularly like meat) but my mom wouldn't let me. lol. I was so mad then, but I wouldn't let my kid, either. It's too hard to get nutrients we need anyway, plus, that stuff's expensive!!. (fresh vegetables, soy, the stuff you'd need to replace meat)

But yeah, I don't like meat all that much, and only really eat it when I eat meals with my husband (who can't live without red meat:wink: )

You guys all talk about feeding a child a vegetarian diet as if it is like forcing your views on them, and say "when" and "if" they decide to not to eat meat. Well guess what, feeding your child meat is also forcing your views on them. And your meat eating ways are a lot more barbaric and unhealthy then peaceful cruelty free vegan ways. You all really suck.

I won't feed my child meat and will consider feeding my child a vegan diet (with the proper instruction from a pediatrician and dietician).

Feeding your child meat is not forcing them to accept your beliefs. Meat is something natural for humans to consume. Vegetarianism is the unnatural, chosen behavior. Being an omnivore is the natural behavior.

So if you want to raise your child on an unnatural diet, go for it. My child will eat what his body is made to eat. Meat, vegetables, etc.

Uhh...
Aren't we, as humans, meant to eat meat? We're higher on the food chain for a reason. Meat is a part of the food triangle. I don't see eating meat as barbaric in the least.

The eating of meat isn't barbaric, it is the slaughter and treatment of the animal before death that is absolutely inexusable. Check out http://www.meat.org

I’m ‘fruitarian’. (I only eat raw food) My daughter is 3 years old, and doesn’t like nuts - so I give her chicken. And little miss Fussy won’t have fish, beef, pork or mutton either. I don’t think it’s the end of the world if you give your little one meat once in a while. They need the protein. I just see to it that it is free range.

I want to add though, that you might want to be more concerned with not giving her sugar, and other chemicals like preservatives, colorants, and flavorings, than meat. Diabetes is the fastest growing ‘disease’ in the western world, so mind that if you posted your question for health reasons. My daughter bounces off the walls after every bithday party she goes to.
