Q: Why Would One's Optic Nerves Be Unequal In Size (diameter)?

My optometrist photographed my eyes, and he said that my left optic nerve is larger (the diameter of the nerve) than the right. Does anyone know why this happens and/or if it can cause vision problems? Note: the left nerve is not swollen or inflamed, just bigger than the right. Surprised
