Irregular Periods, History of Family Diabetes Posted: 08-05-07 22:24pm
Okay...
diabetes runs in my family.
My mother told me it skips generations,
so she hasn't been diagnosed, I've heard
it might increase the chance of me getting
it.
That's not the only problem.
My second year of having periods is
wrapping up this month.
It's been irregular, but nevertheless I
could attempt to predict it last year.
I had my first period about 3-5 days
before my 10th birthday. (mid-August of )
Now, I'm about to turn 13.
I've spoken to my mother about this,
and she's going to schedule a doctor's
appointment.
A friend who knows a lot about diabetes
told me her best friend
went through almost a year without having
a period, went to the doctors, and was
diagnosed with diabetes.
Sometimes I itch in the vaginal area, but
it's not like
insanely itchy. I guess it's the
occasional itch.
But for my height range, I'm 5'3 and a
half,
I'm overweight. My BMI is 27-27.2 so I'm
not
exactly fully healthy.
Anyway, for my first year of having
periods..
I usually had them every 2-3 months. Then
in July of 2006 (I think) for the first
time I had a period in June, then in July
(regularly). Then it went back t o the
every 2-3 month thing. Now, it's August
2007, and I can barely remember the last
time I had my period this year. I usually
don't keep track, but I've started to. I
haven't had my period since June, and
supposedly May. But I'm not 100% sure.
I looked into Diabetes symptoms for
females and PCOS. Can anyone help to add
to my knowledge?

Well, I can't say I know that much about
diabetes or pco's. But I know a lot about
periods. I'm glad you're going to the
doctor.
10 years old really is early to be getting
your period. It might be normal for you,
but it may be worth going to a doc to make
sure there is nothing else weird going on,
like thyroid problems or some other
strange hormonal thing.
It takes many girls a long time for their
period to be regular when they first start
getting it. For the first couple years of
my period, I never knew when it would
come. It didn't settle down until I got on
birth control.
I would guess that your period doesn't
mean that you have diabetes, but it sounds
like, in your family, it is worth getting
checked anyway. I would also ask the doc
about your early period, though. That
could be normal for you, or it could mean
bad things.
