I know for myself my mother didn't explain SEX to me. I had that class in like 5th grade where they handed out condoms, and tampons whatever. But i was not shown what can happen from sex, either being STD's, or pregnancy. I don't know if that's the truth with kids, or women these days. More so for the younger crowd. You shold know by 18 where babies come from, and STD's. I was afraid to ask my mother for BC because then she would know i was having sex. I don't know if that's the right choice or not. Getting a fake ID, or whatever you would get for that would i'm sure be just as easy toget as one for drinking, or driving. But maybe i'm wrong. It's been a long time since i needed a fake Twisted Evil

No i'm saying most kids don't unerstand all there is to know about pregnancy. The last thing that crossed my mind at 14 was that sex leads to pregnancy. I think that sex, and STD's should be more of a friendly issue with parents, and children, and even in school. I didn't have the Sex ED class going through highschool you see on TV. I didn't even knwo about STD's until i was 16. I don't think knowing where babies come from, or that having sex can give you babies at the age of 5 is right. My daughter is 6, and i don't plan on telling her that when two people have sex..... Rolling Eyes

Thats why this WOULD work then people would be mature enough to make the choice. They would have to take a course and then have there children. I just think that 12,13,14,15,16, and 17 is pretty young to be going out there making adult choices. What I learned when I was 25 about infants is something I never would have known when I was a teen.

Oh yeah I totally agree. This way you can't get pregnant, because you wouldn't be able to. This way parents only have to educate there children on STDs and you wouldn't have to worry about pregnancy until they're a bit older, and ready. I just think its something that some teens don't even think about they just think of it as a wee little baby, but don't look at the big picture. Just some much time to grow and mature, and if you want the baby enough you would have to take this course and pass to get a reverse operation. I just think its sad how many children are born into this world that don't even stand a chance. BTW I also think that parents are totally comfortable with talking about this to there children. I just think that this would solve ALOT of problems in the world today and forever. Have you ever thought of this? READ it through again (first post) Honestly Holly I think that you have done a spectacular job with your daughter and I just wish that more than 10% of moms do the same, but it's sad to see.

Well as i stated. I was not very sexually educated growing up in my teen years. I did get pregnant at 17. Two months short of my 18th birthday. But i made the ADULT choice to raid that child, and not abort that child because i made the mistake. I feel that raising my daughter has made me the person i am today. I havn't even stepped foot in a bar since i had her. I feel that the life style i was raised on is not that one that i want for my child. I don't feel that saying that just cause they are young doesn't mean that they will do what is right to raise that child. I had no clue how to raise a new born, but you know what i did it. Still goes back to being uneducated, not immature. But what do i know

I have noticed that you go againt what I say alot(mostly in private messages). I am sorry if I might have offended you in the past. I think that you should read the entire post with a clear mind and try to take it in don't just jump all over the place with reasons why this wouldn't work, because I think it would help out alot of children.

- Alot of teen people don't have the option to live in a huge house with there boyfriend and boyfriends parents to help raise the baby.(like you) I am talking about most people on there own with no support at all. This would help. I just think that it would be better for people to be able to raise there children with there husband or wife/ boyfriend or girlfriend when they're ready to plan a family and to be prepard. Also, educated in this area. I thought I knew it all at 16 yeas old too, but I am telling you when I went to school for my ECE and followed it with university specializing in infant care. I was blown away with all of the things I didn't know.

I now educate people (usually older and younger more mature) on caring for there infants. They learn alot. When I say more mature. I mean mature enough to make the choice to have a baby also to find help from someone who knows about infancy through adolescence. There is so much to know. IE developmental psychology, cognitive development, educational studies, family studies, language and literacy, children with special needs, mile stones, communication and this is big.. I teach parents how to communicate with there infant. I teach them sign language. Most babies mouths aren't formed to say words however they can tell you what they want through sign. It helps. What types of foods help your child with development. How to work with your child in all sorts of areas of need. ALSO on tempers! LOL thats a big one! Also, I teach people how to redirect there children using there words everyday. However, I grew up being hit when I was misunderstood.. IN all of my years of teaching I have never HIT or hurt a child in anyway this will include my own children.

When I was a teen I just thought that babies were cute. I wanted one then, but my parents told me what would happen to me if I got pregnant. So, I never did, but trust me. I am sooooooo happy I waited because when I was a teen. My friends were having them while I was attending university some even in high school. Which have now ended up in some pretty terrible situations, and also few have turned out pretty good.

Now, I am with someone very special. Weve made a choice not to get married. However, were very much in love and want to start a family. He understands me and my views were going to take a course together on parenting when we become pregnant.

All I am really saying is something should be done. I am not saying that 'teens' are bad parents. I am just saying that some are NOT mature enough.

Thats why I am saying that you were very lucky and your child is very lucky! Some teens don't get away from the bars, partying etc. What I have said is that ALL people before they hit the age 10 should have this operation to prevent mistakes then when they're older and ready they should have to take a course if they pass it then they should have the operation reversed. THEN they have the licence to have children. Then children aren't having children. You're daughter is very lucky to have such a great mom! This is not going out to just young moms this also goes out to crack heads and people that really shouldn't be able to have children. As mentioned in the other post..

Ok well what's to say that this was a law. The 12, 13, 14 ect know they have to have to pass a test, and have a licence. Well what if these girls, or couples studied to pass this test just like the driving test. Passed, and still are the same kinda crappy parents that you are talking about?

I think that is an AMAZING idea!!!!

I do want to add an amendment that a person of ANY age after puberty should have the right to put in a petition to have children; because SOME teens ARE ready.

I already feel that normal parents should have to go through a background test just like adoptive parents.

IE a child MOLESTOR would pass...NO. Carla H NO- Why you might ask- Carla and her boyfriend Paul molested and KILLED children. Including her sister. She got twelve years in jail.. Now she's having a baby.. I wonder how that babies life will be. Then you think of all of the people on drugs who get pregnant. Would they pass.. NOT until they're clean. I just frown when I see this. So many other cases too.. I better not mention.

It's just sad.. It would eliminate all the oh oh I am pregnant.. NOW WHAT.. do you have directions to the abortion clinice.. OR I guess I can have this baby, and CAS or CS takes the child away.

Yes, but it would be a course a very complex course.. ALSO teach the basics.. Would you sleep with your infant. Yes OR NO
Answer: NO- can cause sids

It would teach them the basics.. I passed my driving test. I have to admit I am a crappy driver, but I know the basics.. IE stop at a red light, slow for yellow. When I can take a right turn. Yes there are accidents. Wouldn't you like to know how to prevent childhood fatality or how to improve your childs quality of life. Some are given the tools through education (myself) or for you experience and possibly a good set of parents or a parent who helped you out.. Also, mothers intuition. SOME get this OTHERs Don't!

Then the child is in the system. Sad because it totally could have been avoided or prevented!

I am a total child advocate I have helped many children out of bad homes. Where they would have probably grown up with a parent molesting, beating, and just hurting them mentally by beating down there self worth and self esteem. I have helped children build up there confidence after. It happens all of the time. I don't think some people are aware of how bad it is out there. I was forced to take off my rose tinted glasses and to see this for what it is. Don't get me wrong. I have seen many great parents too!

I have tried to think of other things that would be a bit less invasive, but this is all I came up with that would actually make a difference. Perhaps, I will follow through with this. I will really have to advocate too. I just wanted some opinions.

Hmm...while I have long espoused the concept of parental testing prior to allowing conception, it was more in jest than anything else.

I don't agree with a license to have a child because the parents may be idiots, but that doesn't mean the child will be.

The parents may be terrible parents-abusive, incestuous, neglective et. al., but that doesn't mean a child can't grow up and become a successful, productive, and healthy adult.

I certainly don't believe in gov't mandated surgery, either. And I'm not a big fan of licenses to get married, either. Also, that's not the same thing as a license to practice medicine.
