Breastfeeding??? Posted: 08-04-07 22:21pm
Hey guys....so I am wondering if I can get
some opinions and info. from ya'll on
breastfeeding. I am going to try and
breast feed, but Ive heard scary stories
about it and Im freakin out. I know your
milk doesnt come in until about the 3rd
day, so at first all the baby is getting
is the colostrum?? For the first few days
is that all that I need to feed her, or
should I mix a bottle with formula until
my milk comes in?? And I read baby wise
and am wanting to do that schedule. The
feeding every 2-3 hours and putting them
on a schedule. Has anyone else done the
baby wise schedule? I just really need
some advice and info. Hope to get some
feedback!! Thanks so much

You don't need to give the baby anything
else but colostrum those first few days.
I breastfeed for 2 weeks. At the end of
the 2 weeks I was supplementing with
formula and pumping my breastfmilk. Next
time I'll do it again and try a little
harder. It's hard and you have to be
dedicated to do it for the long haul. It
gets easier after a few weeks from what I
hear. Laura knows alot about it. I can't
think of her screen name right now b/c I'm
half asleep, but I'm sure she'll come on
or someone will help me out here.

i was kind of thinking that, but i just
wasnt sure. It just seems like they would
need more than that. But, Ive heard the
colostrum is full of protien and
nutrients.

Babies need nothing more than mother's
milk. Your body takes awhile to make milk,
the colostrum is very good for them. It
has antibodies and fats in it that are
meant for newborn babies. It is nature's
perfect food!
Get a support system set up for your
breast feeding. It isn't always easy, but
it is always sterile, always ready and
always on tap. It seems harder than bottle
feeding at first, but it is so worth it!

colostrum is without a doubt the best
thing you can give your baby!
i think even if you dont end up
breastfeeding you should still at least
give them that first few days of
colostrum. My big suggestion is if you
are commited to breastfeeding then do not
give a bottle. I gave my daughter a
bottle and we went downhill from there. i
think the roughest part is waiting for
your milk to come in but i think your
asking yourself for a lot more problems if
you give a bottle right away. if you want
to formula feed though i think there is
nothing at all wrong with that. i think
it is such a personal option and you just
need to do what works best for both of you
and do not let anyone guilt you about it..
which trust me someone will try to.
