Q: Brown, light bleeding with clots after unprotected sex :WHY
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 4th, 2007
I had my period as normal on 17/07/07. They have always been regular. On 25/07/07 I had unprotected sex and then two days after was experiancing brown, light bleeding with clots and have had this ever since so 10days. I had some light cramps too. Could this be signs of an std? I thought at first it could of been pregnancy but I had my period as normal and am now bleeding again. I havent taken a pregnancy test as i didnt think it was needed seeing as i had a period although I havent really had an appitite latley, Just havent really been feeling hungry but then other times I cant eat enough.

Vaginal bleeding that occurs 10 days after a normal menstrual period is called spotting (metrorrhagia). Spotting is not a sign of pregnancy. It could, however, be a sign of possible pregnancy complication if a pregnancy already existed. Spotting can be functional or organic. Functional spotting, for example, is due to hormonal disbalance. Organic spotting, on the other hand, is due to an organic lesion in the uterus (myoma, polypus, infection etc.). In addition, spotting could be a sign of an STD but not so soon (2 days) after risky sex. You can easily confirm or exclude pregnancy by performing a pregnancy test ... but you should visit a gynecologist to identify the true reason for the 10 days' spotting.
