My cousin, an 18 year old relatively fit male, has an odd stomach pain in the morning. This pain will only occur if he is woken up early in the morning, say before 8am. The pain will last usually until noon time. However, he will feel normal in the morning if he wakes up at a more reasonable time on his own. He claims it does not matter how much sleep he got the night before. He also says that every morning he never feels refreshed and is always groggy for a couple of hours, regardless of how much sleep he got. Can anyone provide any help on this issue?

Strange Morning Stomach Pain
I am a 24 year old male with similar pains as your cousin. It started being a noticeable problem when I was 20 or 21, and while it has come and gone to some degree, anytime I wake up early (usually before 7am) I have pretty intense lower abdominal pain. It feels similar to a bad stomach cramp. I have had varying levels of exercise and eating habits with no real change to the pain.

I saw a doctor and they recommended strong antacids, which did no good. Luckily the past two years I have been a grad student which doesn't always necessitate waking up early, but I have been getting up earlier lately and start work soon so I am a little worried that I will be in pain every morning pretty soon.

Also, I am usually groggy in the morning as well no matter what. It usually helps to drink water before I head to bed, and oddly it also helps me to have a small amount of caffeine moments before I go to sleep. I am not really sure how healthy that latter alternative is though.

Any ideas out there for us?

Stomach Pains
I'm currently 21 and I've had morning stomach pains since I was about 16, freshman in high school. I would wake up "every" morning to go to school and it would feel like horrible stomach cramps sometimes followed by diarhea. I still have these problems today but I try and make sure my daily schedule begins around 9 or 10am. As of late I have found no remedy for these occurences besides waking up later in the morning.

Try getting tested for the bacteria H. pylori... This is the principal bacteria in causing ulcers and furthering any infections.... Discomfort bloating nausea and sometimes vomiting are still present even if a ulcer is not.

I'm a 21 year old male. Normally I used to wake up each morning with no pain, but lately for the past few weeks i've been waking up every morning with moderate abdominal pain. I get enough excersize and what not, but could it be cause i only eat one meal a day or that i smoke a little too much?
