So, I've been on birth control since October. I began on ortho tri cyclen lo. While my periods were awesome on that pill, I gained 15 pounds and became extremely, extremely moody.

I switched to Lo ovral in January. Weight has basically stabilized, moods stabilized. Periods are awful. Lots of heavy bleeding, cramping, etc. Sex drive completely killed.

My doctor recently switched me to Loestrin 1.5/30. I haven't gone off of lo ovral yet (still waiting to finish out this pack) but I'm truly horrified at all the negative experiences I've read about loestrin 1.5/30. Now, I hate to distrust my doctor's opinion over the internet, but I've read SO many side effects about weight gain and mood change that it scares me, since I had those problems before. He put me on Loestrin 1.5/30 to make my periods lighter, but I'm afraid he didn't consider what I told him about the weight gain and the moods.

Advice?

DIFFERENT women react to each hormone in a unique way, SO their experience is not necessarily going to yours.

I cannot use hormonal BC because it causes mood changes.

IF hormonal BC is not right for you, you do the option of a non hormonal IUD.

Sometimes women have to keep trying different pills, because each has a unique hormonal profile.

ALL women will gain weight due to age, the only way to not gain weight is to diet and exercise.

Yes I know different women react differently, so I guess the best thing to do would be to try it. However, almost every review I read was weight gain weight gain weight gain, so it seems like almost everyone is experiencing the same side effect.

But I have been eating healthier and exercising more than I ever have in my entire life. Not to mention I began experiencing weight gain at the exact same time I started the pill. Maybe coincidence, but I kind of doubt it considering I've never had a weight problem.

Birth control can increase appetite, causing a woman to eat more.

YAZ and Yasmin are pills which are known to help with the 'weight gain' side effect.

YAZ is actually used to treat PMDD.

Nuva ring is a very low dose BC method. AN IUD has zero hormones, so it would not have any effect that BC pills would.

You do have options.
