I am scheduled to have a HIDA scan. I have heard that it can be painful, so I am very nervous about adding pain to my existing discomfort. I have had epigastric gnawing with occasional severe distention for about 6 weeks. I have had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy showing slight gastritis and a hiatal hernia, but the GI doc doesn't feel these would be causes for my continued symptoms. I have been on 20 mg of Prilosec twice a day. The ultrasound of my gallbladder was negative. The doctor has not even mentioned testing me for H.Pylori. I don't know if that is because the gastrosopy didn't indicate it, but it is something I need to ask. Please let me know if you have had a HIDA scan. I have been told a smooth muscle contracting agent is injected which can cause abdominal cramping and pain. Ugh. Please let me know what your experiences were with HIDA scan.

It's not that bad. It does hurt when they inject the stuff to make your gb contract. It's just nausea and then some abdominal cramping. It doesn't last but just a few minutes (2-3). Then nothing.
