Why do you think Jesus Christ? Perhaps it was a fairy tale? Theres not a whole lot of proof and it certainly doesn't sound realistic. IF he really did exist I don't think all of the stories were true. I don't think he walked on water and that sort of stuff, but it's possible.. I don't know. I think it's like believing in the easter bunny, santa claus, and the tooth fairy and that just for kids.. Perhaps they had to make something up for adults to keep us in line. IE if you're bad santa isn't coming to our house OR if your bad when you're older you don't really care about santa anymore. So, now the belief is that you will go to hell.. LOL I don't know.. I like debates I should stick to this forum

Imagine this there was a big huge war and the planet was distoryed and the planet was just ashes and dust and maybe there is a few people who some how survived and they got on a boat and they went to an island and then they started making babies then in maybe in 30 years there are 300 people and then in a thousand years theres thousands of people.. So then the people start leaving the island, and they start to find artifacts etc.. SAY someone finds a book. Burried 100 feet under the ground. Some people know how to read.. The book is titled star wars.. SO he starts reading it and reads about luke skywalker, and darth vador etc, and then lets say the guy thinks thats how the world used to be.. AND then all of the people start praising Luke sky walker and thats there way of life. going against darth vador. The bible could have been a book found that was not really true. AND people started to read it and live by it lol.

I don't know if you're under the impression that I believe in the Bible or I am religiuos, but I do not read the Bible nor do I take it and religion seriously. I just think Jesus Christ was an influential person that existed a long time ago. Is there proof that he existed? No, but I don't know what kind of proof could have been preserved in those days anyway. There is no proof that I will die tomorrow in a bridge collapse, but that doesn't make it impossible.

I did one of those inhalation laughs and then a snort for that.

Jude, there are plenty of people who were contempories of Jesus whose writings we have. None of them document this man who performed amazing, unbelieveable miracles. Not one.
I just don't think he existed.

That is not to say I don't believe in an afterlife, or a higher power. Whether that is from fear of death, or true belief I don't know.

I have also drunk 2.4 Killians and I am a lightweight. It is amazing I can still type.

Let us get philosophical now.

I am not sitting here saying, "Yes he did exist, no one can refute that." I just don't see what the harm is in believing he was just a regular person.

There is no harm, unless you are believing in someone/thing who never existed. Then you are fooling yourself.

Yes, but if I'm not buying into Christianity, I don't see what it matters.

Oh, okay, never mind that last post of mine. This makes sense to me now.

You are buying into the propaganda if you believe that Christ existed. It is a farce and you deserve better.

I don't see how it's propaganda. It's never been proven that he existed, but it's never been proven he was made up either. Besides that, I don't think it's wrong to believe in things that aren't real. At least not all of the time.

But really, it isn't like I "believe in him". I just acknowledge he could have existed and maybe he was just some hippie dude. Kinda like Socrates. Or was it Plato? Whoever wrote the Illiad.

The Illiad, the Oddessey and Homer aren't ever mentioned in Ethics class lol, as he's a poet, not a Philosopher. That's probably why you don't remember.

Ha ha ha I think it's really funny that the title of this thread is 'Did Jesus Really Exist?' and the first post is this:

how do we know anyone existed? How do you know George Washington existed? Or how about even further back in history? Because you believe the written account of people who knew them.
But because Jesus lived thousands of years ago; does that make it any less believable?
As one who has accepted what he has done for us; I know he exists. Yes I have faith but it goes beyond that. After accepting him, my faith turned to fact.
There are many "miracles" that have happened in my bible believing church. Healings for one. There were at least 3 cases where we prayed for a healing in someones life. And then hearing that the doctor was amazed and actually said things like "I cant explain it" or "it must be a miracle". You just dont have docs that say this.
He is real and he can be yours too. PM me if you want to.
