Jesus' promises us "my words will live forever"

He protects his word by extra-natural means.

oh PLEASE! There is no "real proof" that says he didn't exist. I have seen enough things in my life to believe he existed. Whether you believe in him or not, is up to you and God, but don't tell others they are wrong.

i was god once. jim carrey was there on a magic mushroom trip with his face dipped in the succulent blood of the innocent. maliciously he watched from a cloud of pixie sticks, sauce pans and a large collection of various lengths of rope and broken guitar leads. he got some listerine spilt on his shirt whilst washing his mouth. gillete shaving foam (sensitive skin) coated the armchairs we sat in. it wasnt until i heard the microwave buzz that i realise that i could make my own nachos. he instructed me to retrive a large sheet of bubble wrap and draw a dvd player in 60 feet of it. he was one crazy guy. he went and made it into a movie.....

the rest of the story is for you to decide???? *looks slightly confused and yet pondering the next verse of the chorus sung in the scriptures*

There are copies of the orginal bible in the britsh museum for all to see. Even the Karon says that Jesus was alive and a real person.

MOst relegions believe christ died and was buried and the rose again on the third day.

I mean do you not celiberate easter? Christmas? These are christian holidays. Christmas is the day Jesus was born. Easter is when he died on the cross for our sins.
If you need further proof I will get my husband to explain this to you all as I am not as good with words as he is and his knowledge of the bible is much greater than mine.

Hmm...
So first of all Birch, your post doesn't make any sense at all. How fitting that we're talking about schizophrenia...And second, Redeme, why do you think I need to do some more reading? Why don't you do some more reading by actually reading what you've written. It's completely irrelevant. You say I need to read more but, why do you say it? For the sake of saying I need to read more? I must be a little confused about the topic based on your post about Jim Carrey. He might have the same initials as Jesus, but he definitely has nothing to do with Him. And why does no one ever answer my questions? I thought this was a forum where we can discuss this.

I'm just trying to figure out where you guys get all your information. One thing that doesn't seem to make sense though is if Jesus was just a man, and his disciples knew that then why would they be willing to die for something like that if they knew it wasn't something that was real.

What do you mean not real? If he never claimed to be the son of god, then he wasn't feeding them lies. They were willing to die for his ideals. There's no problem with dying for your ideals. There are ideals that I would die for.

Quote:
It seems pretty illogical to me. Also, just because Jesus MIGHT not be in any Roman records are you saying He might not have even existed.

I didn't say that myself just that it is (I think) a fact. He is not in Roman Birth records. What do you interpret that to mean?

Quote:
If so... how come the Romans records are superior to other records?

Why? Because they are accurate. Because through outside sources we have confirmed many of the Roman records, and so they are considered a viable source. Thus, if a viable source says someone didn't exist... then maybe they didn't?

Quote:
Also, if you look at what Josephus, one of the most well known historians of that day even knew that Jesus existed.

I've never heard of him; then again I'm not a historian. But just because he's well known doesn't mean he's accurate. There are many well-known people who are famous for how INEPT they were.

How did he know Jesus existed? What are his sources?

Quote:
There are countless examples in history of Jesus being a real person, and plenty of examples that point to Him being the Son of God.

Name a non-biblical, non-religious reference to him actually being the son of god. I'll believe you that there are non-biblical references to him existing as Islam references him, but only as a prophet.

Quote:
Also, what traits make the people of that time of the Bible make them look schizophrenic?

Believing someone is telling them to do things inside of their head. Seeing things. Hearing things. Hallucinations. Delusions of grandeur.

Quote:
I just think people should do a little more reading before and find out for themselves before they go and start preaching stuff that they have heard from someone else.

I'm not preaching, I'm discussing. Religious people preach. I am not religious.

First of all, these are based on opinions, so the way you worded it, is wrong. You THINK he was crazy for the things you THINK describes schizophrenia, but it isn't fact.

My post doesn't make sense to you because you don't understand what I'm saying.

I will indulge you...

The Kool Aid reference answered your question about why the disciples would be willing to die for something...it's a reference to a cult (Jonestown) where the individuals willinging committed suicide (by drinking laced Kool Aid) because of some lame belief in the leader. There are many similar situations. Perhaps this one with the disciples is one.

I don't think you know anything about schizophrenia otherwise you would understand the references. We literally saw someone who believed that either they were Jesus, or the next coming of Jesus, or some kind of reincarnated spirit of God every other day in the psych hospital. Jesus would no doubt be among them today.

The Testimonium Flavianum is written by Josephus, who you referenced as a "well known historian...that knew Jesus existed". It's authenticity, which is supposeably the proof you are talking about, has been debated for years. And all this stuff you said: "Because Jesus wasn't just a man or Josephus the most respected historian of that time who wasn't even a Christian wouldn't have documented the fact that Jesus' tomb was empty" isn't even true. He wasn't even alive when Jesus supposeably was. He couldn't document it.

And so on...

I am not sure what questions you are referencing that you would like to talk about. I didn't see one question mark in your post marked "Wow". It looks like you have all the answers and are more interested in telling instead of asking. I am sorry you feel that "life is futile". Maybe you should revisit your faith if this is all it's given you.

Hope you got proof that flying purple unicorns didn't exist because I want to base my faith and effect your life with laws laid down by flying purple unicorns .

Sorry didzgrl4evr, but everything Birch said made sense. Apparently, you don't know how to read, or only have a second grade reading comprehension level.

You are asking us to prove that someone didn't exist. The burden of proof doesn't work like that.

If you believe it, and incidentally if you want your faith to universally effect everyone by making laws around your faith (I don't know if you do or not) then you have to prove it. In this instance you need to prove that Jesus existed and that he was 'divine'. I don't need to prove that he didn't/wasn't.

Good luck.

"didzgrl4evr"? Actually, I think you are the one who can't read, or write

First of all, I am getting ready to graduate from college with a bachelor's degree(So, I'm not exactly stupid!). Second of all, I was able to read what he said, it just didn't make sense. Now I understand what he meant.

Actually, I'm not asking you to show proof. I know there is no proof to the unbeliever. And if there is, the unbeliever chooses to ignore it. I know for a fact he is real. No, I have no visual proof, but I do have a memory and I know God has worked miracles in my life and I have seen miracles happen many times. (I would go into detail, but I'd just be wasting my time)

This thread is geared towards providing proof of Jesus' historical existence, and then his divinity. I am not asking you to prove your faith in god or even the existence of god. That would be something entirely different.

Have a nice day.

Debate is all about opinions, not facts. So, asking someone to PROVE His existence isn't a debate.

likewise.

its not that anybody THINKS it describes schizophrenia, IT DOES DESCRIBE SCHIZOPHRENIA. its so annoying trying to discuss something with anyone who is blinded by their religion. theres NEVER been any proof he could do any miracles or any kind other then the bible.. which pretty much realisticly lumps him into the group of people who believe they were a prophet or the son of god, probably with hundreds if not thousands of other people claiming the same thing in those days.

not to mention that theres countless religions with the same beliefs and prophets and storys that outdate christianity by thousands of years.

i like to think of it as if right now was the time jesus was walking around chances are hed probably be a homeless person, sittin on a park bench trying to tell hes a prophet to people who think hes the same as every other crazy hobo they walk past everyday.

you add up all the actual evidence that suggests jesus was not even real or who he said he was and you stack it up against FAITH.. the 2 just do not weigh up. im not trying to prove religion as a whole to be false but definitly am saying that christianty was a plagerised idea. jesus most likely was quite the performer and tricked alot of primitive minded gullible people that were looking for something to believe in as most people in those day were (i say that only judged on todays knowledge, i know the romans were technogically pretty well advanced with structures and such).

i was a firm believer of the christian religion till i grew up and realised how many holes are in the story when properly examined, the countless lies spread by the high members of the churchs and the fact that ive never met a religous person who would answer ALL of my questions and not dribble nonsense to try to keep me believing. as i said im not questioning anyones faith just giving my opinion

Whatever.

You can't examine God. If you had grown up a Christian and actually read the Bible, it says that no one can fully understand God. It isn't meant for us to fully understand it. The Bible also says that when we get to Heaven, the vail will be lifted from us so we can see and fully understand.

Had you read the bible, like a Christian should do, you'd know that.

As I said, my proof is my history.
