I have over the past week developed loose stools and this morning a strong taste when belching of eggs. What could be the cause of this.

Loose stools (diarrhea) could be a sign of an intestinal infection. The egg-smell that is present in the belching gas could be due to presence of H2S. H2S is a gas that is produced as a result of protein-digestion by the bacteria in the intestines. Belching gas usually originates from the stomach (swallowed air) and rarely from the intestines (produced by the intestinal bacteria).
