Hello everyone. About 3 months ago I went to the dentist to have a tooth pulled. The tooth was absessed at the time. I went in and they pulled it that day. This may not have anything to do with it but i'm trying to be as spacific as possible. During the numbing, the doctor hit something in my cheek and put my face into a slight shock. It felt real hot. I have been told that it is normal if they hit a nerv. No big deal. Well, for 3 months now I have been dealing with a swollen cheek about the size of a golf ball. It seems the tooth area and gum healed fine (they took more x-rays and said that). I have been going back frequently and they seem to be lost on what to do about my cheek. This is a new infection. It was swollen before but not like this. Before it was my gum pushing out. Now, it's my actually cheek that is swollen. They did drain it one time (very painful) and I have been on so many different antibiotics I don't even know where to start listing them. Anyways, It's not going away. I have called another dentist and he wouldn't see me. He said it's not professianal to take other clients in this situation. I'm so sick of my face like this. I have to wear a bandage cause it slowly leeks throughout the day. Any suggestions? Let me know if you need more info.

If I was you I would stop going into the dentists and go into a hospital or to your doctor even a clinic. Explain your situation. Hopefully they can figure it out. Good luck. Smile

Hey
going to the hospital is a good idea. also you may collect some of the discharge for a lab test. this would give a better idea of what is going on--keep us updated.

Ok, a lot of people are telling me I should go to a hospital. I think I'm going to schedule that. I just wasn't sure before because a doctor never told me that. You know how some people can get...

As of right now, it has been to long to tell if it's affecting me long term. I know an infection like this has to be making my body work a little overtime. As far as the cheek area, it doesn't hurt unless something hits it. Then, I could climb walls. It's sore but doesn't give off a throbbing pain. I do try and drain it every morning as best as possible as well as clean it with peroxide. I keep a clean bandage on it but also try and let it breath just a little. I have tried cold packs and hot packs because I have been told differently from different doctors. I am doing everything I know to do and nothing seems to help.

I do have a picture of it but will not post it until someone says that they want to see it. Thanks for all the help.

Have you to the hospital or clinic. Don't go back to that dentist. It could be because equipment wasn't steriolized properly. Get to the hospital. It could be serious.

After 2 months of dealing with the dentist I did go to my family doctor. He kept me on the same pills and now he is either recommending me to a plastic surgeon or back to a dentist... He didn't seem to know what was going on either. I must have some bad luck. It use to be on the inside. I'm sorry I guess I should have mentioned that important detail. This is why I also think they were not using steriol equipment. Well, thanks for the advice everyone.

No they haven't. That's another thing that's really starting to tick me off. There has been so much going wrong I even contacted a lawyer just to get some info. They basically want me to get it resolved before they will start a case.

Another thing to note. I am going to the hospital (finally) Friday. Just to try it though, I put a wet cloth on it and had a hot pack resting against it for a couple of hours tonight. I wanted to try and drain it myself to make sure I wasn't just being a wimp about things. Well, I got some nasty stuff out (OUCH!). The funny thing is, after I drained the puss and it went down some, it started to bleed fairly bad. It grew slightly bigger then what it was before. I didn't push it to hard or cut it though. I really didn't have to try very hard to get it to drain because it has always been kind of an open wound. I just keep trying to figure out what it is and something different happens. Why would it start to bleed after not very much ooze? And, fill up so quickly with blood? I just kind of pinched it to get the stuff out. I don't know... I'm just ready for it to be over with. Who would think something like this would wear you out so bad? Crying or Very sad

Jesus frucklestick christ! Shocked

Don't wait til Friday, I would run your behind up to the hospital NOW and demand that they do something!

My boss had this exact same scenario; he ended up with a massive infection and sepsis and it was a huge goddang deal. He ended up in the hospital and it was a mess. If you "pinch" the infection into the bloodstream, well, that's what sepsis is and you just don't want to deal with it. GO NOW!

If antibiotics haven't worked for three months do something else!

Oh my goodness, I am inflamed at the incompetency of your dentist! Please do something now, and then keep in touch with that lawyer, and let us know what happened! Don't put your health secondary to anytthing else; hell, go to the ER.

Best of luck!

I have to agree. its bleeding probably because you pinched it and opened something other than just squeezed something out. you know like how a pimple bleeds when its not ready to pop? (sorry guys i know gross.) i think its similiar. get up there now. waiting will only make things worse.

Oh man! I am soo sorry that you're going through all of this. Iknow lawyers court etc is enough.. But also to have to take care of your infection at the same time. I am sorry you really shouldn't have to go through all of this. Good for you for advocating for yourself in a good way. How did eveyrthing go at the hospitla on friday?
