Q: Hip Replacement Or Recontructive Surgery ?

I have just been told that I need to have both of my hips replaced because the angle of the hip joint is over 140 instead of 130 - this has lead to a change in the shape of the joint head (it now has a slight mushroom shape).

This has come as a bit of a shock as I am only 30 years old.

The surgeon says that my choices are to have a Mayo conservative hip replacement or to go for hip reconstruction to change the angle of the joint - he is recommending the replacement.

Any advice or referrals to useful websites would be gratefully received.

If anybody has had either of these options it would be good to hear from you.

No kidding?

I'm 31 and am facing the lifelong repercussions of surgery on my knees at 17 (arthritis)...and wish I'd never had surgery at all. So, from experience, I'd say go more conservative.

Thr
I am 33 and have been told to get THR or PAO (reconstructive hip surgery). I have bilateral hip dysplasia. I am meeting with a specialist in Boston who does PAO. From what I have researched - you want to hold off on THR as long as possible.
