Q: Sudden Calf Pain

Hi, I'm 20 years old and whilst I'm quite active during the day, I don't really do much exercise. I'm not over-weight (if anything I'm a bit thin) however just the other day my right calf started to hurt quite a lot. I don't think it's worse when I stand up or walk, but it's hard to tell bc it comes and goes. It will hurt for a while, like maybe 1/2 hour or so, and then go away for a few hours before returning. The pain seems to be on the outer side of my calf, not near the shin, but it seems very deep so it's difficult to pinpoint. This has been happening for 2 days now and whilst I've had sore msucles before I've never really had anything like this. Is it ok to just ignore or should I go see someone?

Its a muscle cramp.

Calfs are the worse.

Stretching is the best thing for it.

Be careful and good luck

Hi, well it kind of feels like a muscle cramp except that I've never had one that comes and goes before. Like I've had it on and off for 3 days now, but it will come and hurt really badly and then disappear for a few hours before returning. I've tried rubbing it and running on it and everything else I can really think of. Can muscle cramps come and go?

if it is something that is happening out of the blue rather than after exercise it's probably a charley horse. if it's a charley horse in your calf you may be low on certain minerals in your diet. do you take vitamins? if you are low on calcium, magnesium and/or potassium, it can cause charley horse cramps in your calf. dehydration can also cause it. i know, because i'm pregnant and they are common in pregnancy. make sure you are drinking enough water. if you don't want to take supplements you can try bananas for potassium and yogurt or milk for calcium. try nuts, beans and whole grains for magnesium. pumpkin seeds are supposed to be a good source as well. also, if you feel one coming on, do calf stretches by straightening your knee and pulling your toe upward and avoid pointing your toes down. also, try taking some vitamin e.

unknown calf pain since little
My case even worse. I have this calf pain since little. It will come and goes. Sometimes the pain can last till few hours. I used to sport and now, though not as much as what I'd done previously, I'm still doing some exercise. I don't really know whether it is a nerve problem or tendon problem (fibromyalgia?).
