Q: Suicide Consciously Made ?

Euthanasia is physician-assisted suicide.

What do you think when this medical practice is a personal decision consciously made?

I think suicide is unfortunate, but a personal decision. I don't not judge those that take their own lives. I do hope they find peace. There may be ultimate peace in death.

Yes, suicide is a totally voluntary decision...and, for many, it's a decision that allows them to end whatever suffering they may be feeling.

I feel it's a decision that should be allowed. When our pets suffer from the pain of severe and incurable health issues or injuries, we allow them to pass on with dignity and offer them an end to their pain. Why is it that giving our fellow man the same option under the same circumstances so vilified? Why is it considered so wrong for an individual to make the decision themselves to end their pain? Why is it that animals deserve to be put out of their misery and humans apparently deserve to suffer right up until their final breaths? How is it possibly humane to extend the life of someone who is suffering?

I just never understood why human euthanasia is so frowned upon. We may not have full fur coats, scales, or feathers, but we are all animals on this planet, and I see no reason why one species should be denied the chance to die mercifully, especially when it's what the individual wants.

it has mostly to do with religion i think. a lot of people grew up with the idea that killing/ suicide = bad/ going to hell... stuf like that.. so its frowned upon by society...

I agree with Cambion's thought on pets. If they are sick most people don't let them suffer until they pass. They take them in for an injection (overdose of a barbituate) and they die. Humans should have the same choice if they are sick with a terminal illness and their fate is a long drawn out battle with pain and suffering.

I agree with Rainfire when she says suicide is selfish. For a person who is depressed or having a bad day because they lost their money at the casino, their bf or gf left them, or because they got in trouble with the law and have to spend some time in jail to take their life is selfish. They are using a permanant solution to a temporary problem. Through medication and psychotherapy their pain could one day vanish.

Euthanasia
i believe it should be legalized. everyone should be able to make their own decisions even when it comes to taking their own lives. i don't approve suicide by any means, and i think it is a wrong decision in all cases, but it still a free choice.

i think about it this way, if someone is stupid enough to take this decision, it might be the best wrong decision he ever made. at least he choose to take his own life instead of taking somebody else's.

and when it comes to physician assisted suicide, the person here has a better excuse for taking this decision.

euthanasia could do more good than harm, we just need to conduct deep researches and revise the circumstances before we proceed into any action.

I think it is fine, some people just have too much pain to carry on.. Or when it's a terminal disease and you know you are going to die, and painfully every step of the way, some wish to die with some dignity without the pain.

As one of the posters commented, it might be selfish, depending on the case. But if you know somebody is in so much pain as all of their nerves and body systems are shutting down and dieing slowly, wouldn't it be selfish of the friend to allow them to keep at it so that they don't have to lose a friend?

Have you ever been diagnosed with depression? Have you been depressed for most of your life?
Depression isn't just "having a bad day". Depression is something you can't just get rid of. It doesn't vanish. Depression is a serious chemical imbalance in a person's brain.

I hate it when people ask "why are you depressed?" There is no reason. I just am. Things can worsen it, but nothing just makes you depressed.

I have come close to suicide. I wanted to end my life because the pain was unbearable. I got help. The depression didn't go away, but the suicidal thoughts lessened. I'm sorry I'm off topic, I just wanted to clarify what depression actually is.

Suicide is selfish to those who are themselves selfish.
