There are 4 possibile reasons for an
undescended testical :
1. One testicle is missing (unilateral
anorchia) – this is a congenital anomaly
with unknown cause;
2. The testis are in the wrong place
(ectopio testis) – this occurs when the
testis passes the inguinal canal during
the testicles’ descension. Perhaps one
testicle settled in another position
instead of the scrotum. This incorrect
"settlement" could be located in the
inguinal region under the skin, near the
anal opening, at the base of the penis, in
the pelvis or in the leg;
3. Non-descendant testicle
(cryptorchismus) –the testicle stopped
somewhere on its way during descending and
didn’t reach the scrotum;
4. Retracted testis (testis retrahens) –
the testicle is pulled up by its funicular
tie. This is especially manifested during
cold weather and physical activity.
Warmness can cause pulling down of the
testis into the scrotum.
If a testicle does not descend
(spontaneously or surgically) into the
scrotum up to 5th year of boy’s life
function of that testicle will be lost
completely. It may be too late for your
boyfriend’s testicle. At this time, his
fertilization ability depends upon the
functionality of the other testis. You can
request a sperm analyses (spermogram) to
test your boyfriend’s fertility and
ability to create sperm.
