Hi everyone.. I am new to this forum. I hope I am in the right place. I had my first baby 2 1/2 years ago and suffered from postpardium depression ever since. It has gotten better but I am still not the same. My question is since I had it with my son and it has changed me will it happen again if I get pregnant? I want another baby but I really went through HELL AND BACK. I had a hard pregnancy and a hard labor. That doesn't bother me it's the depression that I have. Would I be crazy to try again? Can I stay on antidepressants while I am pregnant so I won't be depressed? I just don't know what to do. I struggle everyday with feeling like a failer. I love my son so much but I don't remember his first three months. Any suggestions PLEASE? I need help to figure out what to do. Thanks for reading and I hope I posted this in the right forum.

Postpartum Depression...
I know that if you had postpartum depression once, it increases the likelihood of having it again. There are some meds you can take while being pregnant just ask your doctor. I myself am having a hard time with postpartum depression. My daughter is 3 months.

You may have it again since you are prone to it, but when you are a new mother and overwhelmed with the newness of your situation and trying to do be the perfect mom, it can get the better of you more than a second pregnancy. Granted, when you have a second child the the house, you have two little humans that demand your attention, but you've been through all the baby care stages before.

I believe that one of the main causes of post-partum depression is just lack of sleep.

I'm not saying that it won't come back, and I'm not saying that it can't be worse or better for you personally. From my own experience, the second time around was easier because of the "been there and done that". With each of my children my symptoms of depression have lessened....and believe me, having the children play together when they are a little older is a great load off your shoulders......do don't have to be your only child's playmate and mother too.

There are medications that are safe for pregnancy and post-partum. Your doctor should know which one is best for you. But I do think that you will do better if you choose to try for another child. Just don't worry about what others may think and remember that you are doing the best you can and that's all that expected of you.

Best of luck Smile

I'm worried abot that too. You are slightly moe likely to get it again. It varies from person to person, i had PND very bad when my daughter was born 5 months ago. My sister had herson and loved being a mum from day one but then when her daughter was born it took her a good 4 months to accept she was hers
