Pulling out is not effective as birth control, your regular BC pills offer you excellent protection.

You could use a spermicide to increase protection, if you really wanted the added peace of mind.

yes but still pulling out on bc is the same as pulling out while not on bc
either way pre cum or cum is getting inside you and either can make you pregnant so no it wouldnt matter if he pulls out or not

as far as I know, pulling out is not an effective birth control but if you look at the list of b.c. options, withdrawal is there and apparently it has a median efficacy if used perfectly.According to the FDA list of approved birth control options, withdrawal is 80% effective when used perfectly.

Although it is not an advisable method to use alone. I will definitely say that it will increase the effieciency of your pill.
If you are a typical user, the efficiency of the pill would be around 96% and if you use withdrawal together w/ it. It will reduce your chances to around 99.2%

If you are perfect pill user, the efficiency of your pill is around 99% and if you withrawal together with it. It will reduce your chances to around 99.8%.

The withdrawal method was not on the list. Periodic abstinence was, but that's the rhythm method (or calender method or whatever ovulation tracking method you choose).

so I would say that withrawal can still be a moderately effective back up method to further reduce the chances of pregnancy

I don't believe those statistics... Yeah it's the FDA but I would think the many pregnant teens is proof it doesn't work...

it doesn't work in a sense that its not advisable to use them alone. However having MANY pregnant teens in this forum or in the internet is not proof enough that it doesn't have any effectiveness at all. Also it can be for the reason that it doens't work well for teens because teenage guys might lie that they "pulled out" or will "pull out" even though they didn't. Also, most teenage boys are not capable or disciplined enough to pull out at the right time.

Furthermore, FDA is not the only one that that stated it, there is a bunch of resources that cites the effectiveness of withdrawal method.

It might be inaccurate to view the effetiveness of withdrawal with a small scale, biased community like ehealthforum. Where most probably the people who got pregnant from b.c. methods will report and the remaining others will not.


However, I want to say that I'm not recommending the use of withdrawal alone especially with teens, for the reasons stated above. Even with an average of 80% effectiveness, there is a still a huge 20% that will get pregnant from it.

Nonetheless, I will remain to my stand that, withdrawal combined with birth control will further decrease the chance of someone getting pregnant.

I am fully aware that pull out is not a good method however I am on B.C. and I still have my bf pull out about 90% of the time...it just gives me peace of mind...I'm such a worry wart, hence the name...I for some reason in my mind just believe that there is somewhat less of a chance if he doesn't go in me, I dunno, like i said I dont count on this method by any means, but..it puts me at ease lol...if I could I would also use the calendar method and pull out method and b.c...but i know with b.c. the calendar method is pretty pointless haha...so...so much for that
