Should I Worry About Std Or Not?
Posted: 07-28-07 18:01pm

In December of 2006, my girlfriend developed symptoms of burning while urinating, itching, and rawness of the outside of the vagina. This lasted about 7 days or so, she used over the counter meds for it since we were on vacation in Florida. We used a condom with spermicide a few days prior to the symptoms. There has not been any reoccurences since that time. I have not had any symptoms of any type of infections. No pain or drips for me. I am currently in Iraq and getting ready to return home, just want to quit worrying if something is wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. She is scheduled for a full female exam next week.

She may have been allergic to the spermicides, many people don't react well to them. There is no harm in testing for STD's anyways though.

Condoms and spermicide often give women those symptoms. However, if you're worried, you can always get checked.

I agree, get checked!

The symptoms you describe could be b/c of the spermicide (I know I'd probably react that way, as I am very sensitive) or things such as an irritated urethra (which can be caused by intercourse) or a vaginal yeast infection can cause those symptoms as well.

But, get checked, both of you, to be sure. That's surely what I'd do!
